Gomery day

John Gomery
Gomery minus 60 minutes. The news media, as expected, is going nuts. Dorothy is asking me if this means we will have an election campaign ignited in the next few days. She is a practical person, and is getting the truck serviced for me, so I can drive off madly in all directions, campaigning.

Esther and I are planning on more canvassing tonight – the first one that will take place in complete darkness. Perhaps the first of many nocturnal sessions over the next six weeks. We could be on the verge of an historic campaign that will change the course of Canada’s history. How can the Liberals, tired and proven to be corrupt, with an indecisive leader, survive this tempest? Will there soon be, as every commentator is suggesting, another referendum in Quebec? Will Gomery and the utter insult federalist Liberal actions represented in that province be enough to make the separatists successful? Could this be the last election that takes place in Canada as we know it?

Feels like history is blowing through this morning. But, of course, I am just one candidate in one riding. My job right now is to concentrate on those things I can influence, and so I will.

Yesterday I received this note from a local reporter: “Keep banging on doors, and talking the truth, Garth. The community needs dedicated individuals like you!”

Gomery minus 51.
