CBC interview

At the end of today’s Town Hall meeting, CBC Radio conducted an interview with me. My friend Dan captured the raw footage and you can listen to it here.

If you want to be a real Maverick then stay a independent member the party will be better without you. That has always been the way some conservatives, but you don’t seem to understand that you work through the PC party as a team & represent your consituents. If all members thought like you we would have a real zoo in Ottawa. Some of you guys go off half cocked & next thing the Liberals are back in power. I had high hopes for a PC majority next time around, but with non-team players as you & some others the best we could do is one of the opposition parties. So the left will rule again for another 15 years.

Thanks Garth!
Wow, thanks for posting that here. I went nuts today trying to get there. Finally thought I might make it across the riding for the tail end and got stuck in traffic. When I finally arrived the library lights were being turned off and everyone had gone. So then I tore up to Milton using unfamiliar backroads, hoping someone would be at the constituency office and could fill me in. No luck, I’d have to wait, so I drove home on the eastern edge of the riding to Oakville.
Ironic. As I raced around a good chunk of the edges of the riding today trying to hear what a group of consitituents had to say and how you’d respond, I couldn’t help thinking on the way home, that it was wierd how much I cared to be there, partially to show support, partially to hear others.
There’s a lot of people in and around those edges, and it dawned on me- you knocked on a ton of their doors to reach them during the campaign, you reach out to engage them in more ways than an MP EVER has , or has cared to, and now here you are posting the audio for those that didn’t get there today.
Thanks Garth. I really appreciate your efforts. I know I missed the Town Hall and the vote, but please add one more to the ‘Independent’ list.
As an independent, you can galvanize support from all parties on an issue by issue basis, be fiscally conservative, environmentally friendly and really work for the people. The middle class of Halton and beyond. Ottawa can NEVER ignore you. If they try, support from across the country will come in droves.
Go ahead and ignore us all Ottawa, risk that and see what happens?
Garth, hold your head high – you ARE changing politics, you are making history. This is only the beginning.

Well done Garth, it’s not the party but those at it that make it a success, stay the course.

Garth Supporters:

I found the following info in a previous blog post. Someone get the phone number of CBC radio, post it here and let’s show them our support of Garth from across this great country by jamming their phone lines in the morning. Anyone game? Just say “I support Garth Turner” and hang up. You could even call your local radio stations in droves and ask them to tie into CBC’s Town Hall story.
(Yo Ottawa, think us voter’s are powerless and inconsequential?)

“The story about the town hall session (not the raw audio) will likely be on the Sunday morning newscasts on CBC Radio in Ontario (6:30, 7:30 and/or 8:30). CBC Radio One is at 99.1 fm in the Toronto area.

I love how because Garth has a different opinion he’s not a team player. Conservative majority? Mister Harper’s killing the chances of that all on his own. The US does not have 51 states. If mister Harper keeps going, a majority conservative government may as well translate to now it does.

The issues are important. But even more important is Turner’s use of the Internet to provide a breath of fresh air. Clamp down on dissent? Secrecy in debate of public isues ? It is systemic in all governments. If you want an even stronger example, ask about the conspracy to deliver a monopoly positon for the export of Canadian surplus water. See http://www.sunbeltwater.com, and look for the letter posted from Canada’s largest law firm – McCarthy Tetrault – and then match the tme line with the posted letter to BC Premier Campbell. The government thought that this story was dead and buried. Bt there it is on the Internet.

You know, Catherine, I thought about it, then I had a read over some of your other comments. Enough said.
