They came, they were nervous, they exhibited extreme bravery, and they definitely made a mark – 10 good men and women who today showed the jaded people on Parliament Hill what regular folk can do.
I will post in a couple of hours with complete details – the media attention they received, the private meeting with the finance minister and the unmistakable sense that the income trust affair is not over. Believe me, I was proud to be here today. Proud of them.
MPtv shot the half-hour news conference, and the video is rendering now. It should be available for viewing in about two hours, and I will advance it for you. A good day, except for the shot Jim Flaherty gave me in Question Period. It will not be the last.

Garth I may have to move from Don Valley East to your riding.
Your constituents can be very proud of you. You are a person of integrity!
Thank you so much for all you are doing to help retirees trying to survive.
We would like to encourage you in continuing in your endeavors as our MP…Conservative or not…We voted for you because of your vision…along with the fact that you were a Conservative( and you came to my house, in your campaign effort)…and generally the views of the party sit well with our opinions, values and vision toward a better nation.
Keep up the good work Garth!

Anyone got a transcript/podcast of this exchange?
The video will be posted soon. — Garth
Garth, we could use a whole new party of MP’s like you. What you are doing for Canadians is exactly what Harper said he would do but did not. We need a party of MP’s whole believe they are elected to work for their constituents. Thank You Very Much.
Thanks Garth & the others for representing a minority’s democratic right to freedom of speech !
You are to congratulated for encouraging people to tell you that you were wrong. Even more for then doing something about the wrong that was done to them!!
Losses due to the Halloween massacre should be taken against all forms of income. Most of us had too much loss, and no capital gains to put them against. We bought income trusts after the Conservatives won the election promising to leave them alone. This won’t bring back the money, but it is the only thing that will directly help the vicitms of this fraud.
Like I said before, this government is the most cynical I have witnessed in my 47 years of living in Canada. Baird and his ilk appear to think that yelling and insulting people is taking the place of intelligent behavior, discussion and governance, and that this behavior will cause a lot of people to vote conservative. He must assume that we are dumb enough to be swayed by his antics.
By the way, look up the root-word (from the Greek) for “cynical”, and then you get the real drift of what I think of this government.
Where’s the “extreme bravery” in all of this? I certainly don’t begrudge folks trying to protect their assets/incomes as much as possible, however this isn’t quite in the same league as heading into downtown Kandahar.
