One of the sillier things to happen this week was the mock outrage (or maybe it was real) shown by Peterborough Con MP Dean del Mastro when I dissed his car. This was after he interrupted my Commons speech to refute a fact of mine which was, well, a fact. At the heart of it all is one question: Is it nobler to be a car salesguy or a politician?
And, of course, who cares? Apparently Dean does. A lot. So he can have the last word. Here’s the story in his local daily, the Peterborough Examiner.
Car salesman comment in House draws Del Mastro’s ire
By BRENDAN WEDLEY/Peterborough Examiner Staff Writer
Local News – When Peterborough elected a car salesman as its representative in Ottawa, it should have expected the jokes.
This week the comparisons between used car salespeople and politicians exploded on some political websites, sparked by an exchange between Halton MP Garth Turner and Peterborough’s very own MP Dean Del Mastro in the House of Commons.
Turner, who moved to the Liberals after he was ousted by the Tories, was in the middle of attacking his former party for its decision to tax income trusts when he apparently offended Del Mastro.
“It is now politics as usual: say one thing to gain support, get into power and do another, and that sucks,” Turner said in the House on Wednesday.
“It proves once again that politicians deserve to have the same standing as used car salesmen, which is what the latest survey shows.”
Del Mastro, Peterborough’s Conservative MP, rose on a point of order. “I take offence to what the member just said,” Del Mastro said. “There are a number of people, and I am certain a number of people in his own riding, who work in the automotive industry and do not deserve to be drawn into disrespect by that member or any other member in the House in the manner that the member has just done.”
Del Mastro is vice-president of Del Mastro Motors Ltd. in Peterborough.
Survey results, though, back up Turner’s argument. A poll released by Ipsos-Reid in January showed Canadians rank car dealers and national politicians as the least trusted professions.
By Thursday morning, Turner had moved the discussion to his website, www.garth.ca, along with a picture of Del Mastro’s 1973 Buick LeSabre. “Dean managed to get it on the public record that I had defamed car salesguys. Odd, I thought. But then I saw his car,” Turner states.
“Turns out my colleague is a used car salesguy in Peterborough, Ontario. His taste in transportation may explain his progressive approach to the nation’s finances.”
The statement, and the picture, had generated 147 comments by 4:30 p.m. yesterday. Some people poked fun at the car, others focused on the income tax issue that sparked the discussion while a few just defended their party of choice.
Del Mastro posted his response on a website called Angry in the Great White North, at stevejanke.com
The Peterborough member of Parliament explained his grandfather, just before he died, gave him the car.
As for his qualifications as a used car salesman, Del Mastro responded he returned home from university in 1994 and wanted to help with the family business.
“From modest beginnings, I built a company that I am proud of with my family,” he states. “I am not ashamed of where I come from, nor should the thousands and thousands of automotive professionals be that work long hours in an unforgiving business throughout Canada.”
It probably won’t be the last sparring match with Turner, Del Mastro told The Examiner.
“Garth is a shameless, self-promoter that feels like he has carte blanche to smear anyone that he sees fit,” Del Mastro said.
“Garth is an elitist who feels he’s better than others. He feels he’s much smarter than he actually is.”

Del Mastro can certainly use a crying towel.
Boo hoo boo hoo!!!
Dean has an ego bigger than the CN tower.
Waaa,whah,whah !
What a huge friggin’ baby del Mastro
is .
Suck it up sunshine and be a man .
Deal with it . Garth spoke the truth backed up by a national survey .
You are almost as bad as our MP Leon Benoit who does nothing ,ever .
Look at Del’s portly frame. No wonder he drives a boat. He spent too much time sitting on the finance committee figuring out CONservative ways to cover up for Harper/Flaherty’s LIES on Income trusts.
Well, at least he will have a profession to fall back on when these bozos are finally turfed from office. Did he help ‘coach’ the Government witnesses called on the Income trust issue like the manual tells em’ to?
“Garth is a shameless, self-promoter that feels like he has carte blanche to smear anyone that he sees fit,†Del Mastro said.

I think del Mastro frequents this site either as a neo-con poster or a silent watcher. He has the “spin” down pat in any case.
Do Canadian taxpayers pay for the gas in that big boat of a Buick going back and forth to Ottawa? Baird was in Peterborough last week. Wsa he driven around in that? So much for fuel conservation and the enviorment. Does it blow blue smoke like the Conservatives?
So stupid is this Del Mastro fool that he walked right into that one…
So he figured “used car salesmen” should not be dragged down to the dirty level of a politician??? A classic there Del Mastro.
With any luck you will have a chance to meet with some of Del Mastro’s ex-supporters when you have your Town Hall in Peterborough in June.
I suspect many who voted for the ex-car salesman would like to see him return to that profession and out of politics.
What I want to know is does Del Mastro have the balls to have a Town Hall Meeting with his constituents on Income Trusts? Maybe he can ask Jason Kenney for some advice.
I personally don’t think Del Mastro has the courage!
LMAO…and a used car salesman is qualified to discern how smart Garth is?!
Now thats funny!
Maybe Dino should go back to doing what he does best — selling used beaters. He certainly seems more proud of being a used car salesman than an MP. Wonder if he’s happier now, peddling the PM’s crappy wares …?
Going back to being a used car salesman, would that be a step up or step down? Just thinking …
Garth,
Ah, I see it clearly now! automotive professionals be that work long hours in an unforgiving business throughout Canada.â€
‘Yes, it was only driven by a little old lady on Sundays.’ Right! And Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries
He was talking about the mechanics who keep those used POS’s running, kind of, while the salepersons gloat over the sale?
Just to show I am being honest. I will tell that I have met with MP Dean Del Mastro and find him to very straightforward and honest guy. I think he has done a pretty good job as our MP.
I’ve posted on this site before that I am a “soft Garth supporter”. I think you have done good things. You have your faults but your pluses too.
However, Garth I wouldn’t say that you were talking like a Liberal during that speech. I will say once again that as a Card Carrying Liberal for 14 years. You are not one of them.
In fairness, you didn’t know the guy was a car salesman. However, it is slanderous thing to say and Del Mastro was right to point it out. Do you think Used Car Salesman are crooked in your riding? If the tables were reversed and suggested something about Journalists would you be offended? I think he rose and made a valid point. If you inadvertly offended him and many others then apologize for it and move on. However, I think for you to carry on like this on your website is far more disconcerting than a simple and quick point of order. So he interrupted you big deal. My goodness Garth your ego is bigger than a house!
Just as a note. Del Mastro sells new cars I believe as well. As well as RVs and brand new camping trailers. There is also a car wash. He is a businessman who looked at the market here in Peterborough and made a successful business for himself. I thought someone of your character would admire that?
By cozing up to the Liberals the way you are now. With the criticisms you have leveled at them in the past. In my books you are the one painting a worse face on politics. You should have stayed and independent. Its where you really belong and where you serve Canadians best! Drop this stuff and get back on topic Garth.
Not that it matters to you, but I was speaking in the House on the income trust betrayal and it was DDM who started this foolishness. I would happily ignore him, but he has been tireless in supporting Jim Flaherty’s crusade against IT investors and, as a finance committee member, voted to deny hearings into this issue. Mr. Del Mastro has much to answer for. And much gas to buy. — Garth
A politician and a used car salesman?
Sweet, lard-arsed mother of keerist…
Sal,
Hey, he could be worse…a lawyer and a politican, eh? LMAO!
Typical Turner… “I’m going to let him have the last word, right after I finish speaking yet again on the subject.”
You are so full of yourself, it really is pathetic.
Tell us Garth, what did you do prior to leaching off the taxpayer? Insurance salesman perhaps?
I have an idea that will help to soothe the bruised sensibilities of the tender soul Del Maestro.
Put that big pimp-mobile to good use. Del Maestro can become the official chauffeur for Harper and his most trusted flunkies.
It is somehow appropriately symbolic of all that the Harper Cons stand for. Big, flashy, self-aggrandizing, blustering nastiness that is so out of step with Canadians that it’s laughable.
Put some candelabras on the hood and hang some fuzzy dice on the rear-view mirror, get Harper a cape and a walking stick and he and his make-up artist can arrive in style. His pair of disheveled (and weirdly similar in appearance) flunkies, Kenney and Van Loan can blunder out of the back seat and each carry a corner of his cape while their eyes roll up in their heads and they speak in tongues.
Watching this bizarrely incompetent Con government crash and burn is one of the strangest, most surreal spectacles Canadians have ever witnessed.
A person couldn’t create more insane plot twists if they tried.
Handing out a play-book that details the contempt the Cons have for Canadians and democracy? Instructing members of government to openly mock Canadians by playing games with the tools provided for good governance?
THIS IS INSANITY…
Don’t be silly. If Garth was looking to smear any and everyone, I’m sure he would have gone after John Baird a while back, indicating how the community wants nothing to do with him and is ashamed to call him one of its own.
He’s upset because you dissed his car? Wow… no self-esteem issues there are there?
A used car dealer was determined to break all sales records with his ‘like new’ models. A large sign in his window announced: “One Blonde Free With Every Car.”
A delighted young stud plunked down his money and, in hot anticipation, drove his newly won blonde out into the country. He parked, gave her a few preliminary kisses, and whispered a suggestion in her ear.
She shook her head, smiled, and said, “You got that when you bought this car.”
I think we should lighten up on ‘Hubcap Dean’. He’s a simple guy, simple thoughts, a typical conservative true believer. For a guy who does as much talking as Dean does, he really has little to say..
We want to work together with all the parties in the House, but we also made promises to Canadians at the time of the last elections, and we have the duty to deliver on them,” he said. “We want to proceed with our agenda. We want to deliver on our commitments.”Government House Leader Peter Van Loan
Isn’t that what the PM said about Income trusts?????
I stole this comment from the Globe and Mail.
Al
I wish Dean would stop the nonsense and get working for Peterborough.

Or an Academic and a Politician.
Woops…

Dean really has no room to critize others for their egos, considering he is an obtuse, dishonest egomaniac. As Peterborough used to be my place of residence, I have taken a keen interest in him, and have noted his stunning and embarassing idiocy on my blog:
http://clear-grit.blogspot.com/2006/12/glad-i-dont-live-in-peterborough.html
http://clear-grit.blogspot.com/2006/01/is-it-illegal-to-sell-your-vote-for.html
I distinctly remember Dean’s debate with his fellow candidates in the 2006 election. He’s a piece of work.
“I mean, I’m used to candidates spouting absolute BS promises that they never intend to keep. But this guy just takes the cake. There were a lot of questions asked last night, each asking for more money than the last – and he said yes to them all. He was just as bad as Slavin in the doling out of un-keepable promises – actually, he was worse, since Slavin wasn’t promising to cut taxes on top of all her spending promises – and a few times, he actually promised more, sometimes twice, what the NDP candidate promised. It was crazy, I literally could not believe what I was hearing. Oh yes, the Tories have struck gold with this one – as a used car salesman, (turned off yet?) he has been trained by his profession to make as many false promises as possible. And he’s good at it. Without missing a beat, he was promising a billion dollars, two billion, five billion dollars for this, that, and the other, the whole time attacking the Liberals for cutting it in the first place – even if it was, say, Mike Harris’ Conservatives who cut that particular service, not the Liberals. Oh, the gall of this guy, you just wouldn’t believe him. While admittedly he’s no Rondo Thomas (direct quote: “The facts don’t matter”), he’s quite the liar. He just does it so well – heck, he’d have me convinced if I hadn’t been sitting there the whole time tallying up what his promises were going to cost (trust me – it put the NDP’s hyperbolic promises to shame), and to top it all off, he stole another NDP campaign slogan when he accused the Liberals of being “the most far-right government” ever in Canada (to much derision and, “Oh come on!”s). Oh and incidentally he opposes gay rights – who’s far right, Dean? Unfortunately, due to the meeting being cut short, I was not able to ask my question: “Mr. Del Mastro, I’ve been sitting here tallying up your promises, and from what you’ve said here tonight, you plan to spend more than the NDP, and on top of that, you plan on cutting taxes across the board, including a GST cut. How, exactly, are you planning on paying for all this?” It was a good question, too bad I didn’t get to ask it.”
Can you say Bolton? You gotta hear his interview on the BBC, I think it was yesterday.
I also want to pipe up to say that I didn’t think it was such a big deal – what Garth did, said and how he reacted. Nor did I think Del Mastro handled it so poorly either. He drives a huge-ass car. Okay, we all get it. He can also be a down-to-earth automotive businessman too. Why is he dragging this out? Dude (to Del Mastro I mean): get over it! You’re making it worse!
And also, how can he (proudly) speak for auto industry workers as a Conservative politician? Didn’t they just can some legislation to deal with scabs?
THIS IS INSANITY….

ooh
trash talk from the saleman.
I went to the stevejanke site to take a look. I think we should send Grammar Purist over there in ‘fetch-mode.’ Doesn’t the blog anchor KNOW that a preposition is a POOR WORD to end a sentence of.
I must say I am thrilled with the newest revelation regarding the “play book” of the Harper Government. Now Mr. Harper and I have a common goal…to see the destruction of the Government in Canada…I hope he is successful, maybe we can replace it with something that serves Canadians instead of Canadians serving it.
“Del Mastro responded he returned home from university in 1994 and wanted to help with the family business.”
Did Del Mastro become an MP because he wanted to help with the family business, or did the family just not want his help anymore?
Garth – how dare you use facts in the HoC during QP? You should know by know only lies and smears are allowed….
“Garth is an elitist …”
As long as you’re the only MP ready to engage the whole darn internet in ideas and issues, not just partisan interests and insults, the elitist label is well-earned.
How do the Harpers, Hills, van Loans and del Mastros manage to shave in the morning? Écrasez l’infâmie!
Speaking of shameless self promotion…
We in Peterborough have been bombarded with mailings from Dean in the past year to remind us of great a job “Canada’s New Government” is doing. He’s also spent a great deal of energy getting his name in the paper under the flimsiest of pretexts.
Just this week we received fridge magnets (I kid you not) with Dean’s mug on them. I’m tempted to go fish it out of the garbage to sell on ebay…
Have pity on us folks in Peterborough.
That’s the CPC for your – mocked outrage constantly. Fact is, if he can’t take the heat he should get out of the kitchen.
If he’s dwelling on this “silly” issue he not concentrating on his work. What a petty and immature man.
I’ve heard a lot worse coming from the CPC to the opposition parties and they’re not whining. Peter MacKay is constantly sarcastic, attacks Dawn Black of the NDP for her loud voice and the dog statement, when he the poorest Minister of Foreign “Affairs” we’ve had.
The CPC use this to get media attention away from their “failures”.
So, Mr. Del Mastro, if you are reading this stop this mock outrage and get to work. That’s what we’re paying you to do.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070518.wtactics19/BNStory/National/home
This is an outrage. The kind of tactics that you expect from an opposition.
It’s time for a non-confidence motion. I don’t care whether or not a particular party is ready for an election or not. The government has a duty to govern the country. Not to prevent governance from happening.
Do Canadian taxpayers pay for the gas in that big boat of a Buick going back and forth to Ottawa? Baird was in Peterborough last week. Wsa he driven around in that? So much for fuel conservation and the enviorment. Does it blow blue smoke like the Conservatives?

Well said worth repeating, I just wonder if Barid would have his picture taken in this car driving to an yet another Clean Air Act Annocement.
Perhaps this is just SOP on page 169 of their now Best Seller.
“From modest beginnings, I built a company that I am proud of with my family,â€
Are he and his family proud of the company (he built) or did he build the company with his family?
“Garth is a shameless, self-promoter that feels…”
Maybe Dean feels that politicians aren’t human, but the general opinion, as I understand it, is that though untrustworthy, politicians are people and therefore should be referred to as “who” not “that”.
I hope Dean went to school somewhere other than Peterborough, as the school system there used to be quite good and placed a strong emphasis on grammatical use of the English language.
Peterborough Guy you have missed the point. Turner was only drawing a comparison to car sales people and national politicians as reference was made to them in The Ipso-Reid report.
Do you not think that when Del Mastro rose on point of order that if the speaker thought Turner was smearing car salespeople he would have insisted the remarks be withdrawn?
Del Mastro should be using his energy to find solutions to feed all the little children that go hungry in Peterborough every day or ways to keep the Brock Mission operating !
Deans car lot sells Suzuki cars and big RV trailers if you can believe it. He needs a Buick freightliner to tug around those huge RV’s.
When the Conservatives took office they had one agenda – an elected majority government.
When that failed they were left with no platform. So they tread water using the Republican model of lies, denial and slamming the opposition.
We need a party that is willing to run the country, has a plan and doesn’t treat the Canadian public like a bunch of morons.
It’s shameful and disgusting the way this government has performed.
Nah, keep it. And leave on any bits of trash and detritus that might be attached to it. If it sticks to your screen door, you might find creative use for it come October 31…
Garth can you please come up with some substance. You are getting paid $150000+ a year and this is what we get. Why don’t you try to find government waste and save us some money.
Hello Garth, i’m really surprised how big of a deal that Peterborough MP has made of your quotation of an Ipsod-Reid Poll that says both Used Car Salesman and Politicians rank as the least trusted politicians.
And I mean, from the context you gave, you were trying to use it to point out how the Current Federal Government is acting so partisan that it justifies the stereotype that all politcians are crocks (although Garth, you’re not crock: just an opionionated no-nonsense MP).
Indeed, you’d no idea that that Peterborough MP was a used car salesman. And ya, even though it wasn’t intended as an attack on politicians and used car salesman, I guess the Peterborough MP was just shocked at the realization that he’s held the two most unpopular jobs in Canadian society!
I’m tempted to go fish it out of the garbage to sell on ebay…
Have pity on us folks in Peterborough.
By Ashamed Constituent on 05.19.07 8:00 am
You will notice right away that e-bay is very discriminating when it comes to such things. They would probably refuse to list the magnets … and probably suggest that you PAY THEM to take them off your hands … for what purpose?
BTH out of me?
Oh yes, Garth, one final comment on the fridge magnet thing. While I greatly admire and value your direct-democracy website and the work you do, please use my previous comment to be forewarned and take heed of what might happen, should the notion of producing your own fridge magnet catch your fancy and it come into my possession. With a bit of creative inspiration, it would fit in well with the collection of goblins, trolls and Jack O’ Lanterns that decorate my stoop on All Hallows Eve.
Just remember the root words of Politics are derived from ‘poly’ meaning ‘many’ and ‘tics’ meaning ‘blood sucking parasites’
The C.R.A.P. has a bumper crop sitting in the HoC.
Garth should step down or be kicked out of the Liberal Party for this (One or the other!)
First Garth, I am very annoyed that you would say, “Not that it matters to you, but I was speaking in the House on the income trust betrayal”
Just to show I am trying to be unbiased. Here is part of a letter you once sent to me after I showed you support on an issue:
I certainly appreciated hearing from you in the past few days as events in the Middle East unfolded. Your input was very welcome and it was encouraging that you took the time to be in touch with me. Thank you.
If your holding Del Mastro to account on policies that his government ran. “GARTH ON!” as far as I am concerned. If your coming to Peterborough to crusade for better government. GARTH ON! But current attack just because the guy called a “point of order” is just immature! As a card carrying liberal for 14 years (When you were cursing Liberals Garth) I am ashamed of these Liberals here that are making “school yard” comments. Again to show I am being honest. As it stands now I would vote for Del Mastro over Betsy McGergor anyday! For anyone who ever actually met Del Mastro you would find that he is a pretty straight up and honest guy. For all those people cursing his business. Well the other day in my neighbourhood his companies’ vehicle was in front of my neighbour’s house because that person won a prize at our local radio station which Del Mastro Motors sponsored. The guy does good things in the community! I will give the Federal government an “F” for its budget it delivered anyday of the week! “F” stands for Families!
Its funny Garth the people making “childish” comments that you now lie in bed with. I remember years ago you bragged you stood on the “riot line” during your leadership contest to oppose. It shows the Liberals need to go to the wilderness for a while. Garth it shows you need to step down for this behaviour.
Del Mastro is right…right now you are acting like a “shameless, self-promoter”! Its not just Garth its Dion as well who is letting Garth shame “a great and truly Canadian Party” by allowing this continual trash to be flung. Dion I am ashamed of you! Just so you know I told Del Masrto that I didn’t approve of the attack ads against you either! I’ve never voted Conservative in my life!
Relax. Take a walk in the sunshine. I said this was all silly, and it is. As for the people posting here, whom you do not agree with, they are voters, whose viewpoints are at least equal to yours. See ya at the Peterborough Town Hall. — Garth
Social Justice Liberal Review
I agree with everything you are saying. Child poverty is a huge issue in this community. But let’s remember that it was under 13 years of Liberal rule that it went up. Just like Kyoto! Not under the 1 year that Del Mastro and the Conservatives have been in power. Let’s remember a lot of those chidcare tax breaks will do more for children than a lot of the B.S. the Liberals did why they were in power!
I don’t disagree with you! But, like Garth you are peddling trash on your own website. That is where you and I part.
Ashamed Constituent: how utterly appropriate that del Mastro handed out such crass tripe with his mug emblazoned on the front, as the Cons speak in meaningless mantras and platitudes the likes of which are usually found on those same fridge magnets.
What other white-trash artifacts can they use to enhance their gravitas ?
Mr. DelMastro loves to have his name in the local press…the big story the other day was his asking for censorship of a CBC pilot that depicted altar boys goofing off and eating communion wafers….True to form, he hadn’t seen the video in question. Despite pleas to stop his regular self promoting mailings, he continues to fill our recycle bins here in Peterborough…My guess is that he is loving the attention he is getting….our Dean is a bit of a sycophant blindly following his leader to conservative valhalla…To be fair, he might be a good car salesman. However, he was elected to be a good MP…that is where the problem lies.
I am not a fan of Del Mastro nor any politician for that matter, federal provincial or muncipal. But I do take exception to slamming the car sales people by Garth. I have been in the car sales business for over 30 years and am proud to say that I have never lyed, cheated or mis represented any vehicles that I have sold, just straight honest dealing. 99% of the people in the auto sales are hard working honest community oriented business people. Its these sales people that start and keep the wheels of the car industry going because nothing happens till a car is sold. Millions of jobs are dependant on the car industry in this country, did you know that Garth? Garth should apolgize on national television to the car sales people of Canada for his comments. It appears that politicians once elected on the cash for life program become stupid and useless and forget who elected them. Garth, I used to have respect for you when I read many of your columns but it appears you have slid into the slime barrel with the other politicians.
Get the facts straight. Read my words. I never even breathed an opinion about car guys. But, I might soon start. — Garth
Take action now! This is a great time for the balance of the old P.C.’s to bust loose from the neo-con wacko’s. Take out a membership in any party of your choice because with all the loony stuff the neo-cons are putting us through, they are non deserving of our support. To the ultra right neo-cons, you are right, found your new reform like party. The first meeting was held in Kingston last weekend. These policy/position confused Harperites must be sent packing.
Did Del Mastro become an MP because he wanted to help with the family business, or did the family just not want his help anymore?
By MB on 05.19.07 6:33 am
He did it because, like most of the other MPs, he wanted to help himself to the gravy train in Ottawa.
To Peterborough Guy, Can you read, show me where Garth dissed used car salemen?
I’ve been thinking about it and for what could have been a total hatchet job in a local rag that article wasn’t written too badly at all. Personally I like the way the best was saved for last. Kind of emphasizes where DM couldn’t help going with it.
Steady wins the race.
Car Guy: unfortunately the statistics on people’s experiences with car dealers just don’t jibe with what you’re saying. Fair play to you if you are one of the genuine ones but I will have to take exception with the 99% figure you threw out.
I’ll never forget the numerous undercover exposes different television stations undertook years ago in which they set out to highlight the nasty practices of various car dealerships.
They corralled a litany of insidious little sneaks within days and captured their lies on video using a hidden camera. I’ll always remember the little turd who tried to apply a 600 dollar “reputation tax” to the price of a new car. Wonder how many vulnerable oldsters got taken on that one?
It’s one of those things that is so easy to cheat the majority of people with because it’s a near necessity for many while at the same time most haven’t got a clue about verifying the soundness of the engine, among other things.
So Car Guy, together with the numerous 1st hand accounts I have heard from people who have been stung by shameless fraudsters in the car sales business, and judging by that little “pitch” you put together regarding the purity and upstanding nature of your fellow car salesmen, I’m guessing that your skills in exaggeration and painting a believable narrative are being put to good use.
I agree with one of the posters above – I would expect something with a bit of substance myself too for an MP’s salary. Maybe a bit more on space development and Canada’s role + extrasolar planets, a bit less on who drives what car. Thanks.
At least we now have evidence to support the contention that used car salesmen are overly sensitive about the negative reputation their occupation has earned over the years. They also have no sense of humour like most neo-cons.
That being said, in my opinion this issue is taking up too much space when more serious issues need discussion.
Hi ho Hi ho..Its off to the Grits I go,
Can’t take no more.
The Cons are a bore..
Hi ho..Hi ho…Hi ho…Hi ho.
C.B. Innes,
At least we now have evidence to support the contention that used car salesmen are overly sensitive about the negative reputation their occupation has earned over the years.
Peterburg Guy,
and you didn’t find it strange that an MP would make a point of order out of the statement of a statistical fact? I found the outrage a bit rich, but entirely in line with the character that has been forced on the House by the New neo-Con Government of Canada.
Écrasez l’infâmie!
Perhaps Dean could become Bev Oda’s personal chauffeur. I don’t think Bev would notice the difference between the Buick and the Limo.
Is this the “wonderful” Del Maestro who backed out of the Lebanon fact finding trip??? And he said ” I don’t need to go to Lebanon to know the facts about what is happening there”. I was going to go , but Steve forced me to stay home because Israel would get mad at him if I went.
Relax. Take a walk in the sunshine. I said this was all silly, and it is. As for the people posting here, whom you do not agree with, they are voters, whose viewpoints are at least equal to yours. See ya at the Peterborough Town Hall. — Garth
I don’t get you Garth. Then why cause all the fuss? I don’t agree with the ones who make fun of Del Mastro on personal level. I.E. his weight. Let’s say if someone were to make disrespectful remarks and talk about Brison having sex with other men and/or gay man in general? Would you allow that to be posted? Would you allow women MPs breast sizes to be talked about?
You think this is silly! But take a look at some of these people posting. Are you proud of the type of voter you have attracted. You want to come to Peterborough and be taken seriously? These are the types of “hacks” that show up. You know what they call a guy walking arond who doesn’t have a real and respectful followers? A guy just taking a walk.
“Garth ON” about Aboriginal issues or another serious topic. I thank you for your commitment to public good. But on this issue. If you had one annouce of self-respect you would scrap this thread.
(Let’s try that post again? A little HTML error)
C.B. Innes,
At least we now have evidence to support the contention that used car salesmen are overly sensitive about the negative reputation their occupation has earned over the years..
Yes, their earned reputation is anathema, but that is called reality.
Liars reap what they sow on themselves and their profession (profession requires advanced education and registration by a recognized organization…I do not put car, used or new, salepersons into the professional class. They are like real Estate agents…BS artists).
I know Harper needs the Peterborough riding for his minority government. However Peterborough residents can’t be considered political backfill! It’s time for Steve to give Dean the heave!
Peterborough guy: This is a blog, not the Daily Word. You obviously do not listen to Dean during QP. He is as boisterous and belligerent as the rest.
He deserves no “breaks” or “easy” treatment. He gives as good as he gets.
“Garth is a shameless, self-promoter that feels like he has carte blanche to smear anyone that he sees fit.â€
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
They are like real Estate agents…BS artists).

Admittedly, it is a very MODEST home, but in our circles we call it a fixer-upper. Quite rustic with that baling wire holding the dryer vent suspended that way, isn’t it.
Bill,
Note that I used the term “occupation” and not “profession.”
um. just want to point out that when my post read…
and stopped there it was because I munched my tags, not because I agree with the sentiment. its the internet for gawd’s sake, not the inquisition.
I was TRYING to ask Garth when he’s going to give us a chance to hear his opinion of Training Wheelgate.
C.B. Innes,
Yes, I did notice that. Others have claimed it is a profession.
Pyotr,

So, you have Muskoka trades people there too? LMAO! Anyone with a pickup truck and tools is a ‘contractor’ you know? Anyone with a pair of wire strippers and pliers is an electrician as well, until the ESA Inspector shows up…then they are fined! But at least they all speak English and can legally work, unlike the GTA.
Fixer-upper can also translate to burn it down and sell the land! LOL
Del Maestro :
“Garth is an elitist who feels he’s better than others. He feels he’s much smarter than he actually is.â€
I don’t know if Garth is what you say.
I know when I listen to what YOU have to say that you are incompetent, ignorant and that you blindly follow the party line. You don’t care about seniors’ pain. You just don’t care about facts and the truth and you are the kind of guy ready to accept Flaherty’s blacked out pages as proof for tax leakage. Fine, how are we to judge your credibility ?
I listen to what Garth has to say. He is speaking for seniors and it includes me. He knows about consequences of what YOU the Cons are doing to Canadians.
I know that Garth is doing a great job and I don’t think that your opinion on Mr Turner does have any importance Mr Del Maestro.
Please learn how income trusts are working for ordinary Canadians and try honesty for a change.
Sorry to say this Garth, but Mr. Del Maestro was right, even if his rising was for the purpose of wasting your precious time (Tubby would be proud he did his homework and lernd his manuel eh?)
Used car guys are held to certain standards of truth and honesty. That can’t be said for the current batch of Tory and NDP Toady’s. Any used car guy should be outraged to be compared to a politician. That’s hitting pretty low dontcha think?
Garth, when you were still in the CPC party were there Instruction Manuals for the MPs such as the one exposed on Friday ??
Did you happen to get a copy ??
Garth, keep self-promoting , you make more sense than the Peter-peope you have incensed.
Re Del Mastro,
“He did it because, like most of the other MPs, he wanted to help himself to the gravy train in Ottawa.”
I don’t think he needs any more money but what he could use is the “prestige” that goes with being a Canadian legislator.
Except he picked the wrong party.
If I was a used-car salesman, I’d be insulted to be compared to a politician.
