Tory’s loose lips were an asset – until now
By Alexander Panetta, THE CANADIAN PRESS
OTTAWA – Tom Lukiwski’s loose lips long ago earned him legendary status on Parliament Hill as a first-rate filibusterer.
When Conservatives need to rag the puck, they pass it to their Wayne Gretzky of parliamentary stall-tactics. Lukiwski has paralyzed parliamentary committees with six-hour soliloquies sustained at the request of his superiors.
Just a few weeks ago he strained his vocal cords during a memorable performance where he talked himself hoarse while stalling a probe for days on end into Conservative campaign spending.
When the Tories sought to stall an opposition bill on the Kyoto accord two years ago, they turned it to Lukiwski. He fired off a 120-minute monologue on arcane procedural transgressions by the opposition that even one of his frustrated foes conceded was a historic performance.
Tom Lukiwski’s mouth has been his greatest political asset – until Thursday.

The Carlyle Group have, or had a plan to take over some banks. Except I seem to remember that they have taken quite a beating on the current economic slump.
Never fear, though! dubya’s family has deep pockets — and deep roots — to bail them out.

Hey cpm, just how does it feel to be on the “Justifiable” receiving end ?
This is what the CPC have been doing to Dion WITH NO Justification.
At least when the LIbs do it it is provable that the event happened and is not invented.
By the by, The PM has NOT sued me yet for calling him a liar.
In a public forum too.
Would it be that he has not got a leg to stand on. Even the most died in the wool Conservative judge would throw him out for wasting the courts time. LOLOLOL
The transcript at the National Post is probably more disturbing to me than the youtube clip, at one point they joke about sending a letter bomb to someone and the mentality they display is rather scary…eep. The full transcript is here

Garth, you are the reason people have such disdain for politicians. You should be ashamed of yourself this is a prank done by zealous teenagers on youtube but not for a parlimentarian!

Guys like these “uncle Tom’s” have to have a close eye kept on them. They rant and rail against a lifestyle that they secretly covet, if not fully participate in a la Wide Stance Larry et al.
In the 21st Century it is called ‘living on the down-low’ and it hurts far more people done in secret that it would ever harm anyone if it was lived in the open.
Again, the Harper Conservatives remain fixed firmly in the Dark Ages. I hope old ‘Uncle Tom’ finds the courage of his convictions and resigns with some honour intact.
Reformers in sheep’s clothing on the way to Gramma’s house..nothing changes, nothing changes. How will it look on the blue machine’s election train? What other skeletons are in Harper’s closet, perhaps that is why CPC MPs are not allowed to talk. The sad part is they never stood and had courage to say sorry to Ralf Goodale. Further more they have attacked Dion spending big bucks and taxpayer money on mail acting so clean and high almighty. Could this be just the tip of the ice burg in nasty hidden agenda of Reform/CPC.
A reminder what can happen to govt. leaders and officials who don’t help their people.
A few days ago, I read 25-30 million Americans had to use foodstamps now, yet dubya’s govt. manages to spend $12 bln. / month for a war based solely on lies.
Now for the helluvit, equal out those figures.
Average 27.5 million people receiving foodstamps, times twelve months, along with costs of food going up; the govt. spends $125 bln. / year on war stuff; take into account foreclosures from the sub-prime meltdown, as well as other financial fiascos.
Who are the elite getting filthy rich, and where are they?

Does a leopard change its spots? I just love it when the NeoCons dirty their own nest, it’s just so…well…unhygiene. And just like Conservatives we start with a conclusion and then look for arguments and evidence to support it. RIP Tom.
Oh and Brad your assimilation seems to be incomplete, back to school for you!
And to anybody who says BUT this was 16 years ago! stop whining, bigots, homophobes and racists have just learned how to phrase everything in today’s politically correct language, but we know those thoughts and feelings still persist under the suits.
Baseness? Oh please.
Apparently the video shown here happened happened many years ago and the guy has offered an apology for what he said. Do we now dismiss anything else he’s achieved before or after?
One wonders how many of our political “leaders” would come out unscathed if we take a really close look at what they’ve said/done over the years.
Doesn’t matter when it was said: it’s still disgusting.
And this was brought forward by the NDP and not the Liberals….and yet the Cons still try to blame it on the Liberals.
Where is the you tube posting of the Member who wished to hang Right Honorable Brian Mulroney? This blog is too one sided to show that one?
Interesting that these same people who want to crucify Lukiwski, worship Barack Obama – even after it was brought to their attention that Barack sat for 20 years listening to his vial pastor.
Interesting! Pity that the politicians (supposably honourable) will now have the next week’s worth of useless Question Period questions. Instead of dealing with real issues that impact us!
And before you Libbers jump on me – I do think that Lukiwski should set down as parliamentary secretary.
And if this continues – watch that every party will now start digging out private conversations. The hell with behaving like they actually care about us – the tax payers and their employers.

‘Reconsider’ Ahenakew decision, Strahl says

“”I have given clear instructions to my staff and my department to not participate in any meetings with FSIN in which Mr. Ahenakew is involved. Again, I want to strongly urge the FSIN to reconsider this unfortunate decision.”
Classic example of Harper Party/supporter double-standards.
How much more can Liberal MPs take before you vote out this homophobic government?
If you hesitate or only jump on your fake bandwagon, the entire gay vote will go for the NDP, and that may represent as much as 10% of the population.
Dion wants more women members but what about gays?
Like taped conversations between the current PM and a reporter talking about ‘financial considerations’ to a sitting MP perhaps should also be considered private?
Fat chance! People tape this stuff for factual reasons, historical reasons, or because they want to keep it for posterity, to look back on fondly and remember.
We’ll see how this plays out for the open, transparent and accountable government of the day.

Are you saying Obama kept his pastor in an apothecary jar? I mean, REALLY, Catherine … You[z]e peeples really bring a WHOLE NEW MEANING TO STOOPITT!
The Con party is full of homophobes. Tom has spent the last 17 years folowing thru on his hate for homosexuals. And the last 4 years voting on every motion to stifle the rights og the GLBT community. Tom’s and asshole, but just the tip of the iceburg in that Neo-reform right wing party.
The remarks in the video are just as cruel today as they were 16 years ago!
The passing of time doesn’t change the crime.
Thanks for informing us Garth.
Catherine: I hope that PM Harper doesn’t expel Lukiwski from the Conservative cockus. It will be good reminder for voters cum election time of an element of the reform faction of the conseravative party that is unelectable.

Deafening silence on RCMP scandal
Apr 03, 2008 04:30 AM
James Travers
Ottawa- If there’s any consensus here, it’s that the still unexplained RCMP income trust intervention was the turning point in a 2006 election that sent Liberals packing and brought Conservatives to power. So why is there near silence about one scandal that changed everything and so much noise about another, the Chuck Cadman affair, that changed nothing?
It’s a question that touches democracy’s sustaining legitimacy and needs to be answered before voters again exercise the sovereign right to choose who leads them through what increasingly looks like a rough patch. Sadly, fear of political embarrassment and the search for partisan advantage are stifling curiosity and the need to know.
As David Herle wisely argued this week, every political party as well as every citizen shares an interest in exposing Giuliano Zaccardelli’s shadowy actions to full daylight. Paul Martin’s campaign co-chair put it this way: If the federal force can defeat one government, it can defeat them all.
The problem is the parties also have reasons to perpetuate ignorance. In effect, if not necessarily by intent, they are holding broad national concerns hostage to their narrow worries. Instead of obsessing over what or wasn’t offered for Cadman’s vote, they should be demanding that the defrocked commissioner fully explain his motivation for ensuring an RCMP criminal investigation became public in the heat of the winter campaign.
Zaccardelli’s revealing refusal to co-operate with this week’s public complaints report can’t be left unchallenged. By not clarifying what happened and why, Zaccardelli is further eroding public trust in a crumbling icon while fuelling speculation that the force was settling old Liberal scores while making like-minded Conservatives come-from-behind winners.
Even by Ottawa standards, those theories are unusually toxic. They suggest Liberals, Conservatives and NDP prefer not to draw public attention to abuses more typical of Third World dictatorships than First World democracies.
Here’s what’s germinating in the space left by Zaccardelli’s missing evidence. Liberals who lost the most are so fearful of picking scabs off old internal wounds that they prefer not to revisit events that can’t be reversed. Conservatives who won the most don’t want to raise the spectre of a victory that might not have been quite fair or square. And the left-tilting NDP wants to forget its role in bringing to power the most ideologically right-leaning party in our history.
Two threads bind those theories. One is that Zaccardelli, a Jean Chrétien appointment, seized the moment to skewer Martin for ordering inquiries into the Quebec sponsorship scheme and the Maher Arar affair that his Liberal predecessor resisted and badly damaged the RCMP. The other, strengthened by Stephen Harper’s post-election visit to RCMP headquarters and budget generosity, holds that the force did what it could to elect a law-and-order government.
No self-respecting democracy can leave those hypotheses untested. If either is even partly true, Canada faces the threat of a politicized police force and the challenge of reforming a vital institution rotting from the top.
Urgency is added by a rapidly approaching election and by the risky Conservative decision to appoint a bureaucrat with old Tory ties to lead the RCMP. Canadians need quick and convincing proof the federal police force isn’t so partisan that it can’t be trusted to stay out of federal elections.
James Travers’ national affairs column appears Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
Nothing new here… homophobic to the core. A leopard does not change its spots. Tells us volumes about the Conservative party. No wonder they tried to vote against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and deny gays their rights under the Charter.

All I can say is: Shame on him.
Too bad no one got audio/video of the anti-semetic comments made at Lib leadership convention. And what happened to Bob Rae’s standards that he would actually stay in a party that would do such a thing, when his wife is Jewish?Libs are far from clean,on the racist/anti-semetic file!
This is unforgettable. This is what we lived through in the Grant Devine/Lyin Brian Era of politics. Pankiw actually distributed ‘hate propoganda’ against Indian and Metis people; he confronted Native Elders and picked fights in bars.
Brad Wall and Uncle Tom egged many people on. I believe they promoted their values, standards, and morals with vulnerable followers. There wasn’t one person in that party that stood up to speak out to the racism, prejudism and the hurtful statements that affect so many Canadians. They almost got away with it.
Conservatives, my ass. These people are a bunch of homophoebic maniacs on a high (power trip). No wonder they were in opposition for so long. We have to put them back there before they get a chance to recycle their opinions and make them law.
Wow, How disgraceful; especially since they didn’t have a kind word to say about ‘Ahenekew’s Remarks’ years ago, as well. The Cons made it very clear that they would not do business with anyone who sits at the table with Ahenekew.
This must be smack in the face of their latest statements again, racist, prejudist, and biggoted.
This is what we lived with in the Grant Devine/Lyin’Brian Era. Wow, finally, we get the basic values and morals of these Cons (power is everything) cons.
I guess it is no wonder the Conservative Feds and the Conservative Provincial government Cons in SK suffered in opposition for so many years.
I think they just got caught with their hands in the cookie jars. We suffered relentless poverty during their reign. They have convinced the new and younger voters they are Conservative. Wow. Hope all Conservatives are happy now. I once was a Conservative living in Saskatchewan. I was fooled; how soon we forget. Lest we forget. Rememberance Day can have many definitions.
. . . Conservatives need to rag the puck, they pass it to their Wayne Gretzky . . .
Gretzky retired some years ago. The thick headed conCRAPneandertrolls have had more than a fair crack at the whip, and they have continually failed at their task by shooting themselves in their collective feet.
Now it is time to throw out two year old pizza, as it’s redundant and stale, so adios harpo, dimjim et al — full time permanent retirement is knocking at your door, and enjoy it!
You had your big chance and you blew it. All of it, and now the electorate will replace you with the Libs.

It could mean nothing or it could mean he is homo-phobic. Either way he probably belong in the Tory party.
If I actually believed the guy had changed, I might not care. If he had just been young and stupid, I might excuse it. If it had happened thirty or forty years ago, I might write it off to different times.
However. This was in the 1990s (despite the 70s fashion sense), the guy was 40 years old, and I’ll give it 24 hours before someone comes up with something else he said a little more recently to a sympathetic audience that will indicate that his views really haven’t changed at all. And nobody will be the least bit surprised.
That being said, let’s just drop it and move on to more important things, shall we? Frankly, I would have preferred to see a post on the debate on the Budget Implementation Bill, and if there is any hope at all of the Liberals voting against it.
Now THAT would be shocking!
This does not bode well for the Cons … looks like the water continues to get rougher.
The point I think needs to be made, however, is that Harper’s agenda is real, and scary. To those who have been complaining about the Liberal’s not representing their constituents (which isn’t exactly true) with abstentions, I think Harper’s muzzled caucus is much worse. Why can’t this Conservative Party of Canada just be honest with what they believe and what they want to do to our country?
Doesn’t Uncle Tom look Cute in this picture? Anyone care to validate his eroneous hatred propeganda and think about what was just said about ‘Ahenekew’s ridiculous statements’ yesterday or the day before. How is it the same or how is it different?
Wonder why Fed Cons were in opposition for 14 years and that the SK Conservative Cons were in opposition for 17 years.
I think this answers the guestions above.
They were waiting for a new generation of vulnerable youth and vulnerable voters.
Go figure. Pretty scarey stuff.

What’s up with this? Would not Laser Surgury eliminate her vision problem?
I’m not attempting to be criticizing this poor MP. I’m just curious why it seems so important that she continues to wear eye wear that doesn’t do her any justice?
I, also have eye damage; I sincerely have empathy for her; why is so being such a sacrificial lamb if she has such personal vision.
I would think this distorts her political vision as well; Whatever! Go figure.
What’s up with this? Does anyone care? I do.
First of all, I did go to the National Post; this seems to be a Conrad Black Rag. I can’t remember when I lost respect for this hobo; but he tells all Canadians that he isn’t a whore or a sex symbol for ’sex hungry convicts’. Guess he can buy his way out of anything.
National post is a RAG and so is Conrad Black/
Go figure. Money talks; bullshit walks.
Sure hope that Conrad Black enjoys his stay in his luxury hotel with others who have something in common with him.
Does Uncle Tom think he can continue to misrepresent the taxpayers of Sk? This Video tells it all. What’s up with his ‘petty and unforgiving apology’ compared to ‘Ahenekew’s public apology’ for denegrading humanity?
What’s the similarities, commonalaties, and the differences? Just wondering?
Funny seeing the Harperbots trying to spin this one.
Well, Garth, maybe you should ask your fellow Liberal MPs why they didn’t vote for same sex marriage? There were about 30 of the Liberal MPs – Szabo and McTeague were some of them.
So before your groupies start accusing the whole Conservative party of homophobia – your groupies should look to themselves.
Everyone can throw stones.
Kathi, these were not “zealous teenagers,” Mr. L. was 41 when the tape was made.
Garth, the time for an election is ripe. This oughta make the Cons tank in the polls. Go now! We’ll vote for you.

Jeez Cathy, where do you get your working notes from, or are you just winging it tonight. Barack Obama is not worshiped by many Canadians. We do like the idea of an intelligent man, a democrat, to take over from the idiot sociopath Chimpster… you know Steve’s hero. Steve and you may not like it and will cheerfully repeat any smear available, if you understand it or not. The rest of simply watch the election show down south without interferance. Which is more than I can say for Steve and his closest shit-disturbers.
Cathy? Do you have a day in which you are not all bent out of shape accusing everyone and anyone of your own BS?
Tom Lukiwski opened his mouth and spewed out a mouthful of garbage for everyone to hear. All in good clean fun (he muttered something about context but then gave it up). He was older than most in the offices there. Just trying to fit in with the kids I guess. So from the comfort level he obviously had in his delivery, he knew he’d get no argument from the rest of the guys. Homophobes all. Joking about letter bombs and such. Why do you guys always get your jollies in the sickest ways possible?
QP is a joke. Seldom is any question answered honestly and completely. The CRAPcons have seen to that. When have they ever answered a question with the serious answer it deserved? Kathy, how many times has Garth’s questions in the house been answered by anyone but van Loan and his crap?
My government has made me ashamed for their behaviour time and time again. It surprises me not that in their black and rotten twisted little hearts they would like this to blow over quickly. Just like the IT Massacre, the Chuck Cadman Scandal, Chalk River and the wee Lunn’s firing of Ms. Keen. Not to forget the In & Out Scandal, the PM’s suing of the Lib Party for saying out loud what most people believe is true. He can squirm and pout and have hurt feelings but no one is buying it. Many many lies, obfuscations, misleadings, misspokens and feigned affront have we put up with?
Steven Harper is a liar. His caucus is full of liars. So sue me. Cowards and liars all, including your trolls, paid and volunteered both. Cathy, I think you are a liar too. What are you going to do about it?
Let’s have an election and clear these scum from our House before they bring it down around all our heads.
Cathy, you are such a total loser.

I know that the CPC is very adverse to having Obama as the next President but if going to Church, listening to a Pastor who said offensive remarks, and leaking false stories about NAFTA is the best that you can do, I suggest you are in trouble there. Obviously you did not, or chose not to, hear the speech Obama gave on race. Of course, you can choose not to believe anything he says.
I guess Mr. Dion and Obama are very scary thoughts for you, just as GWB and Harper are my worst nightmare. I am just thankful Harper was not PM when GWB decided to wage his personal war on Saddam Hussein…our troops would be there fighting as well, looking for fake WMD and Al Qaeda…except Al Queda they will now find as Bushie “brought them on”!
AS to the remarks made in the tape posted here, I hear the same kind of thing daily from some posters here both Cons & Lib supporters.
Hey Garth…
The story’s getting wide-enough play… posting it without any comment does appear a bit opportunistic.
I am gay and support Stéphane Dion. My sexuality does not influence my judge of character or respect for substance. My intelligence allows me to cut through the bluster of pundits and zombie Con-boosters. Through my understanding, I know that Mr. Dion *is* in fact a leader and has been grossly underestimated by his detractors. My empathy knows that every day that passes under our Conservative government is another nail in Mr. Harper’s political coffin. My dedication is to Canada and I have been motivated by the forces that wish to auction off control of our resources and companies to the highest bidder.
I would never put something as inconsequential as my sexuality above the balance of my convictions or allow it to sway my judgement. While some may say that I am lucky to live in these modern times, I say to you that at the end of the day it doesn’t matter as much what happens to me as what legacy I leave for those after me. In the words of the immortal John Adams: “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictums of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”
To the gentleman who piles yet more shame and dishonour on this Conservative Party, you are a disgrace to your constituents and to Canada. Though it may be true that the sins recorded transpired long ago, you were already walking the halls of power. You took the faith of the public and besmirched it. While I can ultimately forgive you as a person, I cannot forgive the stain your shadow casts upon democracy. You must resign immediately.
Garth:
Time and patience is a sign of good Leadership, as opposed to “When in danger or in doubt run in circles scream and shout” is a sure sign of NO LEADERSHIP and SELF-CONFIDENCE!
I for one hope Steve keeps this clown, as a bad example to hold up to the all Canadians and even the world. There are more..and the F.I.R.E. movement to steal Native lands may be uncovered in the process. Thought we forgot about that did you?
Canadians are now seeing for themselves just how these sheepish and conniving Reformers/CPCers truly are. Garth Steve Harper is now having to let the cat out of bag that he will continue to commit our troops to Afghanistan for many years to come, 2 and 3 years at time. We called it hear on the East Coast a long time ago, as we have many other things, then again we are defeatist people what the heck do we know hell our cities are the oldest in Canada and old people know nothing well at least in CPC members eyes.
This has nothing to do with the Conservative Party. There are gays in all parties, people that voted against SSM in all parties, people that drink at parties in all parties. Nothing more than a 16-year old tape from a private drinking party.
Well…I just could not resist this. I tried to join as a team player, but Garth didn’t like it and took my posts down. I guess he thought Liberals don’t need more help liberating the country. Oh well, I tried.
I just want to say a couple of brief things:
By Sandy Canchuk on 04.04.08 1:04 am
Sandy that was the most ignorant bigoted comment on this board today. Do you kick the canes out from under the blind as well?

Exactly Catherine. Also, the one lone gay man who ran for leadership, was at the bottom of the barrel with the women…not one Liberal would take any of them seriously and offer support.
The only difference between Tom Lukiwski and some Liberal members is, we simply don’t have them on video…yet.

Well Catherine, Regina MP Tom Lukiwski denigrating “homosexual faggots with dirt under their fingernails that transmit diseases” sounds like a neonazi rant. Voting against same sex marriage does not equate with this.
Hey Garth,
Seems some of the trolls don’t pay enough attention (no surprise there) to notice that the article wasn’t your own, but rather a link to someone’s elses writing.
I hope you are leave the judgement of his words in this video to others while focusing first on his actions as an MP. Stay out of the gutter where the CONs like to live.
The words in the video were from a lifetime ago, yet they do give an insight into the individual’s attitudes at the time. Has his perspectives changed since then? I doubt it, but really only he knows. Has he done anything between when the video was made and when it was exposed to make one think otherwise? Not that I have heard.
I for one would love to see rules changed to eliminate the filibuster from committes. With such dirty tactics from the infamous ‘red book’ the Cons wouldn’t be able to pass so much crap by the opposition, making a mockery of democracy in the process.
Looking forward to an election!
Cheers,
joe
Boy you real love to feast on the mistakes of others don’t you? Your delight in posting is a greater reflection of the baseness of your character than his.
By cpm on 04.03.08 6:29 pm
File under “Shoot the messenger”. In your world, it is a greater baseness of character to post the truth than to degrade a large segment of our society. Both the NDP party and the Liberal party have or have had gay MPs. Do the Conservatives? It is quite possible, but it would probably be political suicide to admit it.
And to Catherine–while I disagree with the Liberal MPs who voted against same-sex marriage, at least they were able to vote their conscience. The Conservatives vote en masse. Therein lies the difference between the Conservatives and the other parties.
Having said that, I am tiring of the Liberals not taking a stand against this government. There must be many Liberal MPs who would like to vote according to their conscience or the wishes of the majority of their constituency on issues like Immigration and Afghanistan. I could probably say the same about the Conservative MPs. But we will never know.
One comment I heard on CBC yestarday concerns Peter Van Loan who the media tried to question after Mr. Lukiwski statement.
“Mr. Van Loan ran away!”
So the government thinks the incident is over. Can’t wait to see the results in Mr. Lukiwski’s riding at the next election!
Garth, you are the reason people have such disdain for politicians. You should be ashamed of yourself this is a prank done by zealous teenagers on youtube but not for a parlimentarian!

Now I’m confused. Was I responding to Catherine or Leasa? I thought Leasa left us?
Garth, thanks for letting us know when someone is using a different name.
Can anyone tell me when the vote on the bill that contains the Immigration piece will happen?
And now for something completely different …
A final thought on immigration:
“… all parties are fanning fears and claiming virtue — and, incidentally, reducing a diverse and growing immigrant constituency to electoral fodder.”
- Susan Riley, “Getting off the high road”, in to-day’s “Ottawa Citizen” http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/columnists/story.html?id=b4bc18b4-2fa8-4519-9926-f9e67ffc8ef8&p=1
And one to share with all MPs:
“…we are not Iceland with trees. Iceland has excellent governance and clever policies. We have trees.”
- Dan Gardiner, “Our great bounty brings trivia and bloat”, to-day’s “Citizen”, http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/opinion/story.html?id=03ba5742-6c5c-4fbe-9611-70e9cb2bec4a&p=2
If Mr.Lewiwski was an ordinary person I would brush of his comments, but since he was and is in public office I expect him to be accountable for his actions. There is a reason why we call a M.P honorable and with these comments it is far from that. If this man carried any respect for those that elected him, he would not only apologize (which he as already done) but resign from his post.
So the Dippers rummage through the 20 year old trash of others looking for dirt, no doubt, and find some. Shame on them…shows how low they will stoop. As for the Cons , it shows them to be vile as well as stupid for leaving their dirt behind for others to find. As for the rest of us…just voyeurs I guess.
Your posts yesterday were not accepted because of their religious mockery. You also used another name, Cath. Bad troll. — Garth
..and there is the reason I posted under a different name. Why do you insist on lying Garth? Are you that afraid that what Catherine and I both have to say that you have to lie to discredit us? Next, you’ll be saying that ‘we’ are Harry as well.
People attack Christians on this blog all the time. Do you not recognize sarcasm when you read it? Some of the things that are said about MPs on this blog are totally disgusting. I see you don’t mind Diane’s serious disease being made fun of…nope, doesn’t bother you at all. Yet, take a 17 year old video of a CONSERVATIVE member making fun of gays and well, all hell breaks loose. Conservative MPs with serious diseases…blast away…right Garth.
I thought you were different. I thought you had the maturity to separate politics from the people.
I learned something. Lie away…Liberal.

You are always welcome to post, as is everyone. But don’t abuse the privilege. — Garth
Garth this must be a good day for you, finally you have found a mud pie and can toss it back at the other kids. This is taken way over the top but the NDP is so shiny nothing could stick to them or have anyone care, the Libs badly needed some mud to give them time to wipe some off of S.Dion. Some of the posters to this blog must never have gotten stupid at private gathering and for that they should be proud, but maybe they wouldn’t be considered the life of the party either. I’m sure if Garth were to confess there are a few things he wouldn’t want in the public eye, I know that holds true for myself. Have fun with this today, but get over it and back to business tomorrow.
Some views of the Conservative MP’s:
JAY HILL – In 1999, Hill was accused of making a racist remark to African-Canadian Parliamentarian Gordon Earle
CHERYL GALLANT- She is largely viewed as one of the strongest social conservative in the House of Commons, and is a popular figure among the Christian Right, yet has occasionally drawn the ire of opponents. In 2002, she was accused of making anti-gay remarks to then Minister of Foreign Affairs Bill Graham, when during a heated exchange, she kept interrupting “Ask your boyfriend” or “How’s your boyfriend”, despite the fact that Graham is married and has two children with his wife Catherine Graham. Gallant later apologized for her remarks.
During the 2004 election, a controversy erupted when Gallant compared abortion to the beheading of Iraq war hostage Nick Berg.[3] The Conservative Party then announced that she was suffering from laryngitis, and after this, she did not appear at some scheduled debates.
Several constituents accused Cheryl of obtaining birth-date information from a passport application during the 2006 campaign. Her office regularly sends out greeting cards to constituents when his or her birthday comes. One affected resident told the Ottawa Citizen, “The principle is really bothering me: that my information has been gathered without my knowledge. I don’t know how it’s going to be used.” Two families who received cards have sent letters to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, asking confirmation the MP won’t use the collected personal information
SCOTT REID – Early in the 2004 election campaign, Reid provoked a national controversy by re-asserting his view that official bilingualism is too broadly applied in Canada, and should be reviewed by the House of Commons and Senate Standing Committees on Official Languages.[18] He was forced to resign his critic position for official languages the following day.
Reid is a personal friend of Randy Hillier, a co-founder of the Ontario Landowners Association, who was nominated on May 5, 2007 as the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario candidate in Lanark—Frontenac—Lennox and Addington for the 2007 provincial election. Prior to the nomination, some members of the provincial party expressed concern about Hillier’s candidacy, and the Toronto Star speculated that the party might disqualify him. Reid indicated that he would be “very disappointed” if Hillier were prevented from running, adding “I can’t think of anything more dangerous to our prospects”.[25] In early May, Reid publicly endorsed Hillier as his choice for the nomination.
ART HANGAR – He created some controversy in 1996 when he proposed traveling to Singapore to investigate their use of corporal punishment in deterring crime.
JIM FLAHERTY – Flaherty’s leadership campaign focused on “law and order” themes, and one of his proposals was to make homelessness illegal
STOCKWELL DAY – From 1978 to 1985, Day was assistant pastor and school administrator at the Bentley Christian Centre in Bentley, Alberta. His school taught the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum, which caused some controversy for its alleged anti-semitism. Defending the curriculum publicly led to increased political involvement.
There was some controversy during his tenure as an Alberta MLA when Mr. Day, on religious grounds, opposed extending Alberta’s human-rights code to protect homosexuals from discrimination.
Day was also a victim of an incident during the election. When making a “grand entrance” for a speech at Conestoga College, communist Julian Ichim splashed him from the front of the stage with 2 litres of chocolate milk, saying he did it to protest Day’s “homophobic, anti-immigrant and anti-poor agenda”. [Day's stuff goes on and on]
…we could go on here, but I think this paints and interesting picture of the Conservative Party.
So the Dippers rummage through the 20 year old trash of others looking for…

I don’t know if you’re being willfully ignorant or just don’t get the severity of this, what he said was reprehensible. Those type of ghastly comments are more indicative of a persons core being, the guy is a bigot. Those types of extreme opinions do not change with time, the person just gets better hiding it from others.

You are aware that most, if not all, content management systems as well as their little sibling the blog software record the ip of the individual doing the commenting right? As well as other interesting tid-bits of info, I have a nice plugin for WP that tells me your OS, browser, desktop config, resolution as well as a plethora of other info so even the ip can change and you can still pretty much know its the same person…you got busted, live with it sock-puppet.
Gee Leasa – as if Conservatives have never made fun of a disability – take Chrétien’s mouth for example – or speech pattern – say, Dion’s Canadian accent.

Leasa,
let me keep this gender-neutral: Ass!
Glad you finally were forced to drop the “Conservative folk” facade. A troll is as a troll does, and you’ve been trolling forever. No problem, we’re used to it.
Do, however, stop going over the top.
You keep on accusing Garth of lying, as in “Why do you insist on lying Garth?” Well, Leasa, don’t just insinuate and slur, specify and expose the lie(s). As a troll, you should be delighted to show all of us that our host is not to be believed. Slay him with facts and logic.
“People attack Christians on this blog all the time.” That’s interesting, because I had not noticed. Hypocrites are “attacked” now and then, as they should be, as Christ did Himself. But I cannot recall an attack on Christians as such. So, when there is such an attack, expose it and protest at the time. Don’t just generalize when you need a slur.
Personally, I think you should stick to digging asparagus, but fill your boots trying to convince us of the neo-Republican virtues and the excellence of the Harper Government.
Michael, why do you condemn the NDP? Mr. L wasn`t targeted or entrapped…governments in power who employ illegal or unprecedented means of surviellance, unwarranted…now that seems to me a much larger concern. Stewart on Bush in Europe – “trolling(!)`newly-minted democracys` to try and drum up support for NATO” speaks volumes to me…
THANK-YOU SLG & A POLITICAL. The info, the insight, PRICELESS..!
Indeed, Leasa, the more I think about it, I just don’t remember the Liberals or the NDP or the Greens running ads making fun of someone’s physical attributes. Only the Conservatives to my knowledge have stooped so low, i.e., Chrétien’s mouth, Dion’s Canadian accent.
If you can think of Liberals or NDP running such ads, please inform.
Otherwise I guess you’ll have to admit that only Conservatives do those things.

“People attack Christians on this blog all the time.”
By Leasa…
Just a thought Leasa, I think you may be confusing the fact that many of us do not want religion & politics mixed. That we would prefer to see a secular state with religions protected under the charter. To say we are attcking Christians in that instant is not correct.
All the more reason to never run for public life…..there’s not a soul on the planet who hasn’t said something regretful and dumb in the last 17 years….
h/t to responder on Red Tory:
Let’s not forget that this is the same Tom Lukiwski who gave the final speech in Parliament in the summer of 2005 where he said that passing the gay marriage bill c-38 would be the first step on the road to polygamy and perversions.
….so, he’s changed and/or not homophobic? Na, I don’t think so.

Hey Garth, interesting turn of events, but not surprising.
Mr. Harper cannot let this go on much longer. This is a super sticky situation that strikes to the core of the Harper Conservative’s big con — that they’re tolerant and compassionate and care about Canadians equally.
Any bets on how many more days before Mr. Lukiwski resigns? I say he resigns over the weekend.
-R
Agreed. — Garth
It would be a lot less aggrevating if the whole thing didn’t mean Harper kicked out one gay trasher and replaced him with another.
must of been another one of his “wow, these people really are stupid” moments.
Back in the 80’s I used to see a slogan everywhere in my home town:
“The moral majority is neither”
Perhaps it’s time to bring back that old chestnut that everyone seemed to get.
I don’t know why Garth does not post IPs, every other board does..

Thats a fine line to walk, lets do a hypothetical and say your IP is posted with your comment and someone who disagrees with your opinion vehemently decides to use something like Nmap or similar to scan you, finds a gaping hole (you’d be surprised at how many exist on an OS with 60K+ ports) and, well, let your imagination do the rest. It’s an unwise thing to do and is a potential disservice to your readers I think.
I can’t say for tory blogs, but I haven’t seen a progressive blog posting ips with comments…but thats saying something else altogether
It appears the the Sask. people are far more forgiving then the Liberal Mps and their supporters.
It seems that liberal indignation has far more to with political opportunism and their effort to make political hay out of the Conservatives then anything to do with homophobic comments and what it did to the gay community. Perhaps I should have said Liberal crocodile tears.
While the comments were offensive, and insensitive, I am willing to accept his apology and move one to more important things like MPs having to vote the party line therefore deprieving the voters of real representation. Down with the party system and on to a real democratic form of government.

Tory MP feared gay marriage could lead to polygamy
By Sue Bailey, THE CANADIAN PRESS
OTTAWA – Conservative MP Tom Lukiwski says the toxic anti-gay comments he made 17 years ago weren’t really his views, but he warned less than three years ago that same-sex marriage could lead to polygamy and social decline.
“I firmly believe that by passing this legislation, we start on a very slippery slope which could affect societal change in a very adverse way,” he told the House of Commons on June 28, 2005

Your phony, pretentious departure was evidently just another act to try and evoke sympathy. It obviously didn’t work
Your victim act is really wearing thin. Did you really think that all of us would forget that some months ago, when it was getting too hot for you, that you stopped posting under Leasa and posted under the name “Angry Canadian” instead?
It is almost insulting that you thought that you could get away with the lie “I don’t post under any other name.”
Of course, you have posted under other monikers as well. Why not bring it all out into the open and post from now on under the name, “Lyin’ Leasa”? That would at least be honest, for a change, and might even reflect an elusive sense of humour.

Actually Keith phibbs (lies), in my 30+ years of voting, I voted for many different political parties – including Chretien’s. For the last 10 years, I have lost respect for the Liberals – as I see them and the Dippers as very intolerant of anyone who differs from their point of view and the they are terrible fiscal managers – as they think that the taxpayers can keep paying more and more for their “plans”, which they don’t deliver.
Catherine – sure I remember libs making fun of Stockwell Day – or Stephen Harper making fun of Svend Robinson. But that was not my point. Seeing you did not understand my question, I shall repeat it: When did the Liberal Party of Canada or the NDP run ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS that made fun of an opponent’s physical attributes such as the Conservatives did with Chrétien’s mouth or Dion’s Canadian accent?
Unless you can answer with concrete example OF OFFICIAL ADVERTISING PAID BY THE LPC OR NDP THAT BELITTLE A PERSON’S PHYSICAL HANDICAP OR CANADIAN ACCENT, you will have proven that only the Conservatives stoop that low.

Ted Haggard
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ted Arthur Haggard (June 27, 1956) is a former American evangelical preacher. Known as Pastor Ted to the congregations he has served, he is the founder and former pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado; a founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was leader of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) from 2003[1] until November 2006.
In November 2006, he resigned or was removed from all of his leadership positions after allegations of homosexual sex and drug abuse were made by whistle-blower Mike Jones, a former prostitute. Initially Haggard denied even knowing Mike Jones, but as a media investigation proceeded he acknowledged that some allegations, such as his purchase of methamphetamine, were true. He later added “sexual immorality” to his list of confessions.[2]
After the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive counseling, overseen by four ministers. On February 6, 2007 one of those ministers, Tim Ralph, stated that Haggard “is completely heterosexual.”[3] Ralph later said he meant to say that therapy “gave Ted the tools to help to embrace his heterosexual side.”[4]
