To me the scandal is how the various mechanisms meant to impose a little control have been steamrolled. Who will ultimately be held responsible for the hundreds of billions, at a minimum, that has evaporated? Given the ongoing disasters in the U.S. financial market; savings and loans, Enron, Tyco and others, the current subprime meltdown I’d love to see someone make a case that the “marketplace” should be given unfettered freedom to work. They are all about reducing the size and influence of the government. Google them and read up, it’s quite informative.
