As you can see, I’ve asked Dion to come to Halton and go live with me. We’ve rented a honking big hall and I’ll be inviting the community to come and meet the guy, to discuss things people in an urban riding like this are always obsessed with – the too-rapid pace of development and what it’s doing to daily life, plus the toll on our environment. Explain the Green Shift, I said to him.
But a main theme will also be the economy. You know why. I wrote a day or two ago about the local Ford plant, and its setback. Plus real estate has started to feel the chill winds, with too many For Sale signs and too few buyers. Locally, manufacturing plants are laying off or closing and there are more empty stores down the street from my office than I’ve seen in three years. It will be good for citizens to come and ask Dion in person, unscripted, about his vision of where we’re going. I just wish they could get the same opportunity with all the leaders.
But, here’s the deal: I want you to come, at least those who can. If enough of you reply, I’m willing to have a reception for garth.ca bloggers to meet Dion in private before the event. Are we on? RSVP to me directly: garth@garth.ca.

Garth,

I have a commitment that just has to be kept.

I’m sure there will be some CPC spies there.
I wish some of the CPC trolls would go – without an attitude, if you know what I mean….listen and ask questions, like adults. Nothing to lose and maybe something to gain.
I will be there!
Nice work getting Dion.
It takes some courage to put out a policy as complex as the green shift and then stand in front of an “anyone can come” audience to defend it.
Hi Garth.
In Calgary I gave Stephane Dion a DVD showing that the official version of what happened on 9/11 2001 defies the laws of physics and cannot be true.
I sat beside him at supper.
I gave his wife the book “Debunking 9/11 Debunking” by David Ray Griffin.
I gave you documents and a DVD in Calgary when I went to three of your meetings in one day. Remember?
Every MP and Senator got similar material on May 1st. 2008, delivered to the House of Commons and Senate.
I gave similar material to Michael Ignatieff and several candidates for Liberal leadership as they came through Calgary seeking support.
At several Liberal meetings in Calgary I got lots of support from members including candidates for future elections in several ridings.
They accepted my DVDs and asked follow-up questions at later meetings, wishing me success.
No one supported the official fable.
I have written to four party leaders and many MPs asking for an investigation
into the murder of 24 Canadians.
You agreed to educate yourself on 9/11 2001 when given material and a DVD in Edmonton. I have that on video.
Do you think my efforts would pay off if I used up some AirMiles and came to your Public Meeting Aug. 20th?
Do you think I could expect an answer from an important Canadian Opposition Leader now that a majority of US citizens do not believe the official tale? I would not fly there to be ignored as I have experienced since I brought this to the attention of the Liberal Party when leader Bill Graham agreed to get back to me after I gave him the book “Global Outlook”.

Really, Garth … you honour me by saying that I am attached to the PMO …. and meanwhile all the forum trools want me banned!! You are obviously my guardian angel on your fine forum.
Unfortunately, since I cannot attend, perhaps you could pose these cogent questions to the good M. Dion on my behalf:
M. Dion, svp …. In your Green Shift you lay out a 4 year timeline for the costing of carbon per tonne, and I assume you have plans to be the next prime minister of Canada some time between the next election later this year or by October 19, 2009 at the latest. The Green Shift carbon tax would presumably start in 2009 and end in 2012/13. Correct?
However on page 16 of the Green Shift you categorically state:
“Canadians know Canada won’t meet its obligations under the first phase of the Kyoto Protocol.”
Since you are one of those Canadians who also believes Canada will not meet it’s 2012 Kyoto “obligations”, and your Green Shift does not have mandatory GHG reduction targets, what will happen in 2012 when Canada does not meet it’s “obligations” under the Kyoto Treaty when you are Prime Minister?
I ask this question in the context of the recent “Kyoto Protocol Implementation Act” that was a Liberal-sponsored private member’s bill made into law recently, and requires that Canada meets it’s 2012 Kyoto targets.. Will you as Prime Minister abide by this Act as well as meeting our 2012 Kyoto Treaty “obligations” .. as you put it?
Specifically, will a Dion Liberal government in 2012 purchase Kyoto Carbon Credits on the international market to mitigate any GHG excess above our 2012 Kyoto target?
I remind you, that in your other two “green” plans, one when you were Environment Minister and the other after you were selected the new Liberal leader, you made provision for international carbon credits as a means to mitigate Canada’s GHG excess, most of which was accumulated under past Liberal governments.
Kyoto Carbon Credits in 2012 … yes or no ..???
Darn, I was recently there twice. Not likely to be able to swing a third trip so soon, but very tempting. Maybe plans will change.
I shall try and clear my agenda for that date!
There’s just on thing I want to know:
Will there be WiFi?

Hi John,
When you pull the sheet of aluminum foil over your head, how do you do the edges — you know — so your ears are not covered?
I use a bowl with mine — I pull it over the tin foil and fold the edges nice and smooth; then pull the bowl off. I figure some of the rays might get in if the edges are all crinkled. But they can’t get past a nice smooth egde.
Know what I mean?
Harry S. you are always asking Garth to ask M. Dion about things, well here is your chance. Ask him yourself.
Wish I could be there!
Just got back from the fireworks at English Bay: US contribution was rather fizzly and lots of red/white/blue, doubt they’ll win this year. Canada rocked last Wednesday and is still the one to beat.
You, Mr. Turner and Stephane Dion. Anywhere in BC, I’ll be there, and bringing friends.
Have a great weekend and plan for a very productive meeting. Growing minds is no small task. Keep on keeping on!
Dear Mr. Turner
Various sources indicate that some 2.5 million (or more) Income Trust investors were directly affected by Harpers Betrayal. I can’t imagine even ONE of them voting for Harper again. Not one.
MILLIONS more have surely come to recognize the destruction of Canadian Industry that directly resulted from Harper’s LIE. BCE sold, many more Canadian enterprises are now American owned, as Harper had planned. All this damage done by Harper and his LIE. The tax leakage is astounding and Harper caused it. And he lied about it.
Many more voters have surely realized that the tax leakage CAUSED by Harpers Income Trust Betrayal, combined with outrageous overspending (make that vote buying) by Harper leave us in deficit territory that WILL result in higher taxes for us all.
Given the number of votes garnered by Harpers goon squad nationwide, back when people believed his foul lies, and given that literally millions were burned by the disgraceful actions of Harper it would seem to me that keeping Harpers Income Trust Betrayal front and center would make sense for you guys. The media is ignoring the issue.
Consider that : Millions are still affected and still very angry at the losses ($) that Harper caused them.
Millions more are only now seeing the damage that was done as tax revenues fall. It is as bad as was predicted when Harper betrayed Canada.
Those millions directly affected are extremely motivated to get out and vote AGAINST Harper the Liar and his goons.
Given the results of the last election, it would seem to me that harnessing these votes in your favour could well represent a significant tipping point for the Liberal Party. We are talking millions of votes nationwide here.
I wish I could be there on the 20th to speak directly to Mr. Dion about this.
Since I can not be there, I hope others will do so.

Hi Garth
I was fortunate enough to spend about 10 minutes with Mr Dion in private while he was here in Calgary discussing the Green Shift and how it will support the creation of thousands of new jobs and how it will benefit the economy in general. How do I know this? Because this is what happening here in Alberta with Premiers Stelmachs version of dealing with Climate Change and his Emissions Management Act and it’s mandated 12% reduction coupled with the 25% reduction created by the demand for a supply of carbon offsets from the unregulated
sectors of the economy like agriculture.
The issue right now is that the Harper Plan for Climate Change will not accommodate any equivalence agreements for agricultural soils or forestry sinks as permanent offsets. The Green Shift will!
The Alberta Climate Change Plan has already put millions of dollars in farmers pockets
http://www.uofaweb.ualberta.ca/govrel/news.cfm?story=74395
Harper wants to kill the golden goose here in ALberta and Dion’s plan will keep it alive with the dollars flowing to our farmers.
In my mind it is a no brainer but some on this forum want our money to go to the USA in import tariffs.
We know that until the technology catches up with the Alberta Legislation there will be a strong demand for credits produced by farmers and that helps the environment NOW not later -helps our rural economy by putting millions of dollars into our rural landowners pockets and help the corporate bottom line because they don’t have to pay $15 into the government tech fund -they can pay the farmer about $10 bucks(about $1.50 per acre)instead.
All created by a market based instrument Dion supports this model-Harper does NOT
I support Dion because he supports the rural economy. Harper does not.

Sir
If you were to invest even 30 minutes of your time INVESTIGATING instead of remaining ignorant you would quickly come to conclude that John Duddy and millions of others (as in more than 85% of Americans according to a recent poll) believe that the US Government was directly involved in 9-1-1
The choice to remain ignorant remains to be yours.
You can start here: http://www.911truth.org
There are so many FACTS that lead one to conclude the obvious that only a fool would believe otherwise.
Before you pander to foolish rhetoric and ridicule you must loose your ignorance.
The easy part is coming to realize that you have been lied to in respect to 9-1-1.
The hard part is accepting that fact and realizing the implications of the truth.

I’ll be there!
I can’t wait to hear him outline his plan to start a major trade war.
I’d also like the hear him explain why he’s pushing his green shaft that will increase pollution.
By Stan on 07.27.08 7:54 am
Since Mr. Obama had announced an intended tax prior to the Green Shift being annouced, could you explain how Mr. Dion is starting a trade war? Also could you explain how the CPC plans to address this intended tax by Mr. Obama on imported tar sands oil? Is he going to allow Canadian taxpayer’s fund to go into the U.S Treasury or will he institute the $65 a tonne tax he spoke of in London, England? If he does institute this $65 a tonne tax, does he intend to lower the tax rate for Canadian taxpayers?
I see Mr. Dion as a man of great courage. To stay silent and not retaliate while the Conservatives abuse was hurled at him shows fortitude and honour. His exposure of the Harper scandals one by one shows a cunning mind. His determination cannot be faulted. His policies show promise. He has a team that has the ability to make a contribution. He and his team will/can/do make mistakes, but are flexible enough to change and honourable enough to admit to them. (well – some of them) Win or lose, this is a gentleman to be respected.
If the invitation was reversed and it was Harper I honestly would not be able to attend, my disgust for his messianic attitude sickens me. Given that chance when he was first elected PM I would have gone with an open mind. Not now. Not ever.
I used to be non-partisan. Now I think I am just desperate to see the end of Harper et al.
It would be an honour to shake Mr. Dion’s hand. Wish I could be there too.
Washington’s recent mortgage bail out….an overwhelming 72% stated it was a bad move. Prevention is indeed the best cure and it must be apparent to all that Stephen Harper had and has no vision for the future. Why waste words, Stephen Harper has never passed a mirror he does not like, and each and every day a few more new voters are waiting for change and hope for a better future while he dreams of being King and ultimate ruler of Canada.

Richard,
If Garth is “filling” the halls with his friends then, to his credit, he must have lot of friends.
Further to this I expect he is, in fact, making more friends each day. Courage and honesty have a wide appeal.

I’d say probably the third to the right. You know the one with the little black goatee. However, did anyone notice Stevie, the one sitting to the right of Hairy, is stating to show the stress he’s subjected himself too? LOL
I am looking forward to your thread on the results of the public meeting in Halton, especially since the PM of Canada refused to debate the Green Shift plan, can’t begin to explain it, doesn’t even want try to explain it because he knows at this point that to do so would only make him look like the non – leader that he displaying. He’s betting that by ignoring it, voters will forget his lack of leadership on the economic & environmental issues we are facing right here in our own country.
I dare all you Con trolls on this fine forum to take off your blinders, attend the public meeting with an open mind & hear the Green Shift plan before knocking it. Listen to it first hand from the source it came from rather than taking the word of the PMO office & the so called Journalists. You know, the ones who can’t make themselves report ALL the facts &would rather inject a few choice words to distort the actual truth. I am beginning to understand what the term embedded means when it comes to Journalists that we are subjected to in Canadian Newspapers throughout this country. National Inquiry Style.
I wish I could afford the trip Garth but way to far & expensive to fly or drive especially after having to make a trip to MB in June when my mom was so sick & passed on.
Have a great Sunday everyone. Be Happy!

I hope that the unequal MP representation for Ontario in the Conservative plan is not going to be forgotten in the upcoming bye-election campaign. This is so blatantly unfair it should outrage all Canadians.

I’m jealous of Halton residents as usual. Their MP gets this kind of meeting set up for them, while my MP (a loyal Harper drone named Loyola Hearn) doesn’t even remember what my riding looks like.

England is already looking at this problem and the only answer I hve seen so far s to write it off like a third world debt. There is approximatly 4-5 trillion dollars outstandng on credit cards world wide which will ultimately be unpayable. The worst part is that millions of people otherwise able to pay their mortgages will lose their houses if we blindly follow the rules we have now which will make a housing crises into a housing disaster like south of the border. If we follow the states and try and preserve investments ahead of people we will end up with a third or more of our population homeless. if we follow England and some other european countries and look at helping people ahead of companies we will recover in a couple of years after weeding out the cancer in our society.
About a month ago Brain and I discussed a couple of questions I posed that are at the root of he problems the world faces today. The answers reflect whether we will face a decade of hardship or just a few years. Here are the questions again if you or anyone wants to tackle them.
1/ Who is at fault, the person who takes out a mortgage they can’t really afford then defaults or the bank that issues it?
2/ Who is at fault, the person with 7 maxed out credit cards or the 6 companies that issued them after the first one was not being paid in full?
3/ Who is at fault, the person who can’t pay for the furnature or whatever or the company that gave it to them with no money down and no payments for a year?
If you take the time to answer them, think about what rules we need to change and the results of your answers. Congratulations you just solved the most basic problem underlying the whole financial crises today.

Dear John, timing is everything in politics and much else in life.
In this case, trust the American People will do the right thing(s). First the election this Fall must be completed, and then the inauguration in Jan.’09. After that, the American Bar Assoc. in conjunction with others in their society will file the appropriate charges against those who have broken their laws and violated their constitution. This route has been selected as more effective and less devisive than would impeachment proceedings.
Unlike the J.F.Kennedy Assassination mysteries, I think you will see a thorough investigation and debunking of this terrible 9/11 event. Have faith and keep the material for future reference, brother.

Elucidating….Revealing….more apt!
While the environment is an important issue, the issue in Ontario is the economy…out in Alberta, things are wonderful we hear, although Mr. Harper may have over estimated the income from Alberta as he tries to buy votes in Ontario and Quebec, thus a deficit.
Billions poured in Ontario, 1.3 billion more for Quebec and 623 million for 3 provinces in the west…and the west was worried about Dion shifting money from the west to the east? I think it is Harper who is doing that after all, Alberta is safe for him no matter what he does, right?
I just got a 10 percenter from Rob Anders. Please encourage him to keep it up.

This was the first of two fatal water incidents on the Muskoka River on Saturday.

1 & 2 BOTH
3…The individual
I say that because the lenders in 1 & 2 have the ability to zero in on the credit of the individual and therefore seem to have some liability whereas the furniture store can only rely on the rating from the credit bureau. Of course the individual bears the greatest responsibility. No one is twisting one’s arm to avail themselves of goods and services on time with the exception of emergency situations. Generally buying a new car, or loading up on the latest technology gadgets does not qualify as an emergency. Regulations for lending however need to be tightened to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Ultimately when the individual defaults however, it is the shareholders that bear the debt and should not be the government. (taxpayer)
Bailing out institutions as they are doing in the U.S., and printing money is not the solution, they are only digging themselves in deeper in the long term. If he is your MP, send him your e-mail address and ask him to send you the information by e-mail. That way you won’t be paying for it.

No BALLS AT ALL huh Harry?
How pathetic yet predictable.
……………………………….
Actually I’ve been asking a Liberal MP in a nearby riding if Dion was going to visit, but I get no answer. You can bet if Dion comes anywhere near me, he will get questioned .. in both official languages too..!!!
Maybe it’s Dion who doesn’t have the ‘balls’ to come to my neck of the woods.

Harry, we’re still waiting – you cannot expect to be answered unless you are willing to answer yourself…chicken.
I wish I could go on the 20th of Aug, but I can’t – distance and work is a problem to reach there by 7:30, but he was in my little town recently and went over really well.
Garth, Thank you for the invite. Sorry, I will have to pass this one up for personal reasons. Hopefully, you will be able to arrange other such events in the GTA in the near future, especially towards the East.

ITEM #2 on my list, Jim … after income trusts … just before the environment.
PVL and Stevie want to “screw us” to the tune of 11 seats. We’re entitled to 21 seats, rep. by pop., and they will permit 10. We will “screw them,” the forty-one compliant, silent lambs, when we vote.
Flim-Flam Dim-Jim Flaherty, along with Pierre Poi-Poi Boticelli Boy Poiliever, bad-mouthed Ontario. BOTH WILL BE GONE!
Richard: Anders isn’t “allowed” to vote. His vote is dictated to him by the Great Dictator himself.
Harry: Dion is attending a public forum. No shields. You are refusing to attend to ask your own questions–looks like you are the one who thinks he needs the shield.
Richard: Was Anders one of those who voted no confidence in Elections Canada? Of course he was. And did he inform you that he will not be seeking re-election because he has no confidence in Elections Canada? If not, then he is a hypocrite.
He must have confidence in
Elections Canada if he is going to follow their processes. So why did he not resign if he believed Elections Canada was not a worthy overseer of Elections.?
Anders is told how to vote and when to vote. Even if it is hypocritical.
Central bank to take riskier assets as collateral
Whew, that was close. Here I thought that the Canadian taxpayers would be on the hook for these ABCP’s that they can’t seem to convince anyone to buy. We sure “dodged” the bullet on that one. Good thing the Mark stepped up, huh? Good ting the Liberals allowed Flaherty to give him those un limited powers, huh? He needed them, and will use them
going forward
Fellow Canadians, I congratulate you for being right on top of tings. Don’t let anybody call you stupid Hosers. Why, why that’s almost like a hate crime ain’t it? At the very least it can be made into a case of cyber-bullying. Call in the layers.
Now all those other tings…the liar’s mortgages, the deceptive contracts, the bundling up of worthless toxic paper into products pushed onto the taxpayers of other countries, the socializing of debt and bundling of Jumbo mortgages….why, why, that ain’t a crime now is it? That’s business boy! I say, I say again, that’s business – we get money for nothing, and the debts are yours for free.
Sarcasm Alert! The above post may contain sarcastic elements which don’t translate well over the Internet. Callous apathy leading to harmful consequences may be referenced obliquely, but can be safely ignored in your usual manner as you really didn’t give a damm and still haven’t realized how it pertains to you.

by MORK 07.27.08 10:34AM
“Mork”, your behavior of knee-jerk fear, re: John and Ben’s comments, is palpable. You instantly stomped on them. Their behavior is that of concern, and I dare say guts, considering a comment from skittish people like you. You probably were shooting for a laugh, but considering a number of top officials in the U.S. agree, I think your smooth-edge hat isn’t working. In 2000, Richard Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Jeb Bush, Lewis Libby and Don Rumsfeld’s report: Rebuilding America’s Defenses, promoted American “hegemony” and “Full-spectrum” dominance. A fundamental proposition by them was to maintain US pre-eminence, thwarting rival powers and shape the global security system according to US interests [SPP comes to mind]. It’s their agenda of US military expansionism. Despite negative side effects for ordinary citizens while enriching some industries, they state: “defense contractors” will be handsomely paid by tax revenues for arming this new American empire.
The Preface of Rebuilding America’s Defenses, states their aims to:
Establish Four Core Missions for the U.S. military:
-defend the American homeland
-fight and decisively win multiple, simultaneous major theater wars
-perform the “constabulary” duties associated with shaping the security environment in critical regions
-transform U.S. forces to exploit the “revolution in military affairs”
The report also states: “the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor”
“A new Pearl Harbor”. What catalyzing event soon thereafter would expediate the efforts of these power-hungry, greedy, impatient, narrow-minded men?
We’ve know fear is used as a tactic. Consider that many wise men throughout history have warned that this sort of behavior was going to rear it’s ugly head, again and again.

The $12T in cash accounts desperately looking for an investment will turn to the old standby, war. I said that last year and over the last 12 moths there`s been a noticeable global buildup of arms.
Do you really believe politicians don`t know long in advance that war is inevitable as the global economy slows. Well if they don`t you can bet your bomb shelter the smart money does and bullets are a prime investment.

War as a Business
Common in all wars and particular to the next big one the prominent result of buildup to fighting a war has a common thread. War creates jobs, these jobs create consumers who consume everything from bullets to body bags.

War as an Investment
There has been quite a flight to cash, in the trillions with tens of trillions of global investment money at risk. The obvious and very probable viable investment vehicle as used countless times in history is war.

William, in every case both parties are at fault. The difference is the consumer relied on “experts” but the experts were not watched closely enough and often let loose to prey on their victims.
Unsuspecting consumers are bred by ignorance, and lay unprotected by a wrong-thinking governments who soften rules, and let wolves guard the hen house.
That makes a third party at fault too. All of us, for electing fools who suffer from greedy, manipulative, corrupt cronyism and horribly wrong-thinking ideologies.

Anyone who insults women and makes bigoted comments and threatens the Leader of the Opposition and then crawls away when given the opportunity to ask his questions in public has outed himself. His assumptions at the end of most of his posts are so offside that for the most part he has been relegated to silence…which is where he belongs…free to print his rants but also to be ignored…

Good comments, especially the one on shareholders bearing brunt of bad, greedy business decisions rather than the taxpayer. Ironically, after encouraging the public to go into ridiculous amounts of debt the U.S. is taking the only wrong answer as its direction and piling that debt back onto whats left of their tax paying base.
As you pointed out clearly questions one and two which all governments are facing now are a fine balance. If too much blame is placed on the individual we get the results of the states, an out of control collapse, feeding on itself. If too much of the blame is put on business then the bad companies collapse quickly and the rest are weakened with the net result of high unemployment and its ramifications. I think your point of the banks and private sector finding solutions is the best but only if we have a government prepared to protect the people first and back industry solutions to acheive that goal. No large government plan other than tax shifting like the liberal one can do much at this point.
I disagree completely with you on question three from personal experiance in running a couple of small busnesses in my life. While I would agree that anything purchased under this or any similar type of agreement should be returned ASAP any business using this as a sales gimmick should be 100% responsible for any downside. This is especially true if you GIVE AWAY a product you don’t own outright with just a promise to pay in the future. I have witnissed first hand a company coming all the way up here to reposess stock that was unpaid for and then sueing the business owner for stock given away with this kind of deal. This was despite the fact that the value was not much more than the plane ticket. Probably 80% of the business failures here have involved some sort of hair brained give away scheme before they went under and I suspect it is similar everywhere else. The worst part is that if a supplier or manufacturer has enough customers go under because of this they go under too putting many innocent people out of work.
The good news is that now that the MSM are finally talking about the root causes of this disaster. We are finally near the bottom and whatever solutions our governments and businesses take will determine how steep and how long the climb on the way back will be.
Maybe it’s Dion who doesn’t have the ‘balls’ to come to my neck of the woods.

Unbelievably, Harry actually wants to believe that Dion is afraid of a ball-less wimp (Harry) who comes to garth.ca to insult and spout anonymously while hiding behind his keyboard.
And when the opportunity finally comes to step forth like a MAN and confront his apparent nemesis (a man who he calls a wimp no less!) he tucks tail and runs like a scared puppy!

Instead of going to Halton to explain his greenshift plan, M. Dion would be well advised to come North where I am right now, in Pond Inlet, Nunavut, and see the large amount of ice still in the water, even at the end of July. The people up here put no confidence in Al Gore’s pseudo-science, and see the people down south who believe him as gullible and naive.
It is the same in the Cumberland Sound area near Pangnirtung, Nunavut. There are huge amounts of ice that have made it impossible to get out into the boats until much later than usual this summer.
Also, David Suzuki is not a pure scientist, but a pantheist whose undergirding beliefs are more religious than scientific. No matter what false image is given to the David Suzuki Foundation as a foundation of science, anybody who investigates the true nature of his beliefs will find them to be, at the core level, more religious and spiritual than scientific.
The people who actually live on the land up here call it “junk science,” and it would be better if more people were to come up here to see for themselves what is going on than to simply watch movies about the drowning polar bears, etc., which is another hoax that only the gullible are believing.
The only thing that this myth provides is a basis for the green shift tax grab which will ruin the economy in going after an environmental phantom that is more religious than scientific.

Daddy’s car in the woods?
Little Johnny watched his daddy’s car pass by the school playground and go into the woods.
Curious, he followed the car and saw Daddy and Aunt Jane in a passionate embrace.
Little Johnny found this so exciting that he could hardly contain himself as he ran home and started to tell his mother.
‘Mummy, I was at the playground and I saw Daddy’s car go into the woods with Aunt Jane.
‘I went back to look and he was giving Aunt Jane a big kiss, and then he helped her take off her shirt.
‘Then Aunt Jane helped Daddy take his pants off, then Aunt Jane . . .’
At this point Mummy cut him off and said, ‘Johnny, this is such an interesting story, let’s save the rest of it for supper time.
‘I want to see the look on Daddy’s face when you tell it tonight.’
At the dinner table that evening, Mummy asked little Johnny to tell his story. Johnny started his story.
‘I was at the playground and I saw Daddy’s car go into the woods with Aunt Jane.
‘I went back to look and he was giving Aunt Jane a big kiss, then he helped her take off her shirt.
‘Then Aunt Jane helped Daddy take his pants off, then Aunt Jane and Daddy started doing the same thing that Mummy and Uncle Bill used to do when Daddy was away on the rigs.’
Mummy fainted!

If this is so, why is Harper proposing a $65 a tonne tax…and why is Obama proposing to tax Canadian imports from the oil sands…and if Harper doesn’t tax it first, our tax dollars will be going into the U.S. Treasury…have they all gone mad…??? Do you think when Harper’s tax goes into effect, there will be offsetting income tax reductions?
Vlod? Vlad? Ah, if some of the CRAP Trolls, or especially a PMO Front Bencher show up, there will be a re-enactment of Count Vlad. How appropriate…and all is needed is words.
Seems the Income Trust issue is being ignored by Dion. All those meetings across the country in town halls with thousands of seniors expecting help from a Liberal government…and now not a word. After Seniors were betrayed by Harper, John McCallum announced a Liberal 10% refundable tax that would restore much of our losses. But now not a peep on Income Trusts from any Liberals and nothing on the Victory site. Maybe it’s time to talk to Elizabeth May and see if she still supports seniors. Dion seems more obsessed with his Green Shift than the real plight of Canadian Seniors that were savagely ravaged by Harper.

Rather curious that folk argue over what the price of oil is now, what it may go to ($250-$500 / brl.), and now this report, which says that it could tumble to $50 / brl.
Doesn’t include the untapped reserves in the Arctic, South America or Africa. It also doesn’t specify what will happen when the last drop has been squeezed out of this planet.
Part of one para. follows:
“. . . over the next twelve months, from mid-2008 to mid-2009, (1) news of super giant oil fields, ready to produce, would be announced for two locations, in the Northern Slopes of Russia and in Indonesia, which oil fields would together contain more oil reserves than the entire Middle East; (2) that this news would drive oil prices down to $50/barrel; (3) that OPEC countries, especially in the Middle East, would be bankrupted by this price decrease; (4) that this would cause the financing of our foreign trade and current account deficits through purchases of treasury paper by foreign nations with their surplus oil profits to collapse, leading to the collapse of the dollar; (5) that the collapse of the dollar would cause unprecedented financial strife and turmoil in the US, and that it would take many years for the US to recover from this financial debacle; (6) that they (big oil) support John McCain for President; and (7) that US domestic oil reserves would never be tapped, and that any legislation which might allow domestic reserves to be tapped would not be allowed to pass, leaving the US dependent on foreign oil forever.”

Bell and Telus will supposedly change ‘net rules in 2010, taking full effect in 2012; the NAU takes effect in 2012.
Now this from Europe, primarily France and Sweden. Sarkozy (France), along with others already panders to Israel, but the main point is that the NWO will be able to freely snoop on ‘net users worldwide, keeping tabs on us while removing all the freedoms and rights we enjoy now away.

There’s irony there, folks
George W Bush, one of the weakest presidents in U.S. history has seemingly performed one of the greatest coverups in U.S. history. Imagine how his administration was able to so successfully carry off, and cover up, the whole 9/11 thing.
I’d imagine the conspiracy nutters are Osama Bin Laden’s worst nightmare; he pulls off a pretty spectacular event and they’re trying to hand credit to Bushie.
You’ve gotta love the conspiracy set!

“I’m not a climatologist. I follow the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change,” he said. “The best scientific evidence we have now says climate change is happening and that the human imprint is undeniable. This has nothing to do with religion or emotion; this is what the scientific community is saying.”
If the question on the issue of the Liberal position on Income Trusts has been asked at previous town hall meetings,as suggested above, wouldn’t it be appropriate for the Liberals to post their position somewhere? accessible to those who may not be able to attend? I can’t see why the only means to find out what the Liberals would do on the issue is to attend in person. Keep in mind that the number of folks who attend one of the public meetings is an almost infinetisimal percentage of the population.
Where does everyone else go to see what Stephane says on the issue?
The policy was promoted in a press release, in a media conference with the leader on Bay Street, in a series of town hall meetings (a dozen of which I gave), on network television, and posted on the Lib web site. What do you want, a skywriter? — Garth

Ziiiiiiing !
Irony of ironies
In the age of the internet, with most information a few keystrokes away, the only way to find out what the Liberal leadership believe on an issue is to physically travel to one of their PR events and raise the question in person.
Bad news for the other 99.99999% of the population.
Even worse new if you want to talk to the Conservative leader. — Garth
And so unnecessary; there’s nothing to prevent the Liberals from setting up an area on their website with very specific poitions on the various issues Canadians keep asking about. What’s the problem?
As to your reference to the Conservatives I’m not convinced trying to cover up a poor effort on your part by claiming others are even worse is a winning strategy; it doesn’t inspire confidence. At the end of the day a “public meeting/town hall meeting” is best left for specific issues impacting on a fairly small area and the local populace.
Dion has had 18 public, open, free-to-all meetings in five provinces in 32 days. Many more to come. Only an insanely partisan person would conclude his efforts are lacking. — Garth

You know I don’t live in the GTA, Garth … so why are you misleading everybody here?
You advocate an internet-based political community, yet you refuse to accept valid questions that could be put to Dion on August 20th from the internet.
Why are you shielding Dion from tough questioning about his Green Shift, the carbon tax, the Kyoto treaty and the Kyoto compliance act?
Quoting you:
“This web site is your portal to action and influence for Middle Class Canadians: contact Garth Turner’s Help Centre for assistance dealing with federal government matters, and participate in votes that send your opinions and views directly to Ottawa. Understand that principles matter, and are worth taking action to defend. Become part of Garth Turner’s advocacy for Middle Class Canadians – it’s about empowerment for the rest of us – and together we might even have some fun!”
Why can’t you make your weblog a true ‘portal’ and ask Dion the questions I have posted here.
And how many people, at a guess, would you say actually attended? (Keep in mind we’re a nation of 33 million plus people).
As to whether or not his “efforts are lacking” the point is that these intimate little get-togethers don’t even impact on an minute percentage of the population, particularly if one of his caucus is telling people to ask Dion in person whenever they have a question. The issue is mostly what the point is to having Stephane wandering around pressing the flesh when it won’t do much to advance the level of debate.
As to someone being “an insanely partisan person” you’re probably not the person to toss that out.

That would be an interesting situation. Do you think David Anderson MP would post a question and answer from our PM on why he has failed to restore investor confidence in Canada or why the Conservatives only have the talent to get tough on crime and not ability to even recognize the root cause. Better yet why is the PM backing the global arms race, can he not come up with an option to armed global conflict. He`s another, other than reducing the global population faster than starving billions is there any other purpose to expanding the arms race to include Canada.
Armed conflict under the nuclear canopy could and probably would have consequences far greater than just trading lives for profit.
I`m sure Mr. Anderson would appreciate you asking these questions to the PM on his blog. when he answers let me know and I`ll pop over to read it.

By Charles Oxley on 07.27.08 7:09 pm
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Charlie man, you need to read more and think about what developments are under way.
First, There is more shale oil in the state of Colorado than all of the rest of the World’ conventional reserves put together, BUT it is far more expensive to extract.
Second, there are current research projects under way here in Canada and elsewhere that involve growing algae in water on slash / trash vegetation. They have already been able to extract a high quality oil that is better than Canola (Rape Seed) oil which is both edible and directly usable as diesel fuel! Again cost and performing this on a commercial scale rather than in a laboratory is again the main problems.
Next, there is a huge untapped supply of natural gas in Canada’s Arctic Islands and also Methane Hydrates in the Ocean depths. (One of my cousins died in the drilling crew PanArctic Air crash on Melyville Island in a blinding blizzard helping find more already).
Again, the farther into the Arctic or under the sea, the more expensive it is.
Finally, what we need to do is ration the uses of hydrocarbon fuels to stop the wanton wastage that occurs every day, you and I both see. Either we ration or raise the prices, but it has to come down to limit your use to justifyable levels, or pay the higher prices.
Now every barrel or cubic meter saved by using solar, wind, and nuclear in lieu counts. The end result will be less gaseous CO2} into the air.
Another factor that has not been high lighted much, is the rampant deforestation of the planet for lumber and fuel. Trees breath CO2} in and exhale O2) out. There needs to be more tree planting and less land clearing especially where the soils are not conducive to growing grass like crops.
Finally, this current oil price bubble is a highly preventable one, but only if speculators are mot allowed to bid up the futures markets based on rumor. The future delivery contracts do need to be bought and sold, but just as there are profiteers bidding up the price, you are next going to see some serious bankruptcies as these prices fall sharply leaving some of the less sharp buyers holding the bag of futures now worth 3/4 of what they paid for them. Greed has its losers just as in the real estate market and the sub prime mortgages! Even gold bullion is not immune! Balance you investment savings and hang on for the ride.

O M G Mork!!! Stephen Harper believes in three things on your list! At least three from all we’ve heard so far: psychics, astrology and the Christian ghost. His closest advisors and ministers believe in a few more on the list but Harper keeps them quiet about those, e.g., Stockwell Day = dinosaurs and humans = Ogopogo.
A lot of Harper drones believe some really weird stuff. A few hundred years ago, Harper and his psychic sidekick would have experienced the waterboard treatment and live only if they were witches!
Junk science? Only Stephen Harper’s hairdresser knows for sure.
OK, seriously folks, I’m getting real scared.

It has nothing to do with balls beacuse it is his job to go out to all areas of Canada and try and convince them to support his party. That way he gets the big bucks as opposition leader. The real question is how many people did he convince to switch over and support the Green Shift Plan while he was in Alberta? The latest polls seem to indicate not very many.
I get a laugh out of all the Liberal trolls who are bashing Harry and calling him dumb and such. Yet he is smart enough to push all their buttons and gets them to slam him instead of them favouring us with their Liberal propaganda. Look in the mirror folks and perhaps you will see the real fool.

I have a question: you sent me the link that would show my income tax refund. I would like the link that would show me how much tax I would be paying on my natural gas bill, electricity bill, water bill, property taxes…etc. I am more interested in seeing both sides of the equation as opposed to only one side. Where is the rest of the equation?

Moe drivel from a friggin’ moron .
Apparently Garth is busily deleting again.
His comment “You’re so jealous you’re words bleed” wasn’t the last comment in the string, but he’s decided all of you shouldn’t see the rest.
Stephane Dion’s Leadership is Merely a Formality?!
There is more evidence that Stephane Dion is not really in charge of his party anymore?
Today’s Hill Times contains this article:
http://www.thehilltimes.ca/html/index.php?display=story&full_path=2008/july/28/backrooms/&c=2
… reporting on scheduled meetings that Dion has made with top Liberal next month. The discussions will be about bringind down the Harper government, and triggering an election this fall . However, for an article supposedly about Liberal planning for an election, the topic quickly turns towards the question of how forces within the Liberal Party are already planning for a new leadership race.
An anonymous Liberal MP is quoted in the article as saying:
“The MP said he was surprised by the question, but also said it appears that Liberals have accepted that Stéphane Dion’s presence at the top of the party is just a formality and that activities for positioning in anticipation of the leadership convention are becoming more and more evident.”
There you have it, Stephane Dion’s position as Leader of the Liberal Party is merely a formality at this point.
Supporters of both the Ignatieff and Rae camps are now moving against one-another, trying to position their candidates for a leadership race. There might even be sine concerted attempts to wrestle control of the party apparatus away from Stephane Dion’s people. Such would be the case if Alf Apps, a key Ignatieff strategist and organizer, is elected to the position of Liberal Party President.
The question now becomes: does Dion really want an election, or is he being forced into triggering one by factions within the Liberal Party? Those who just want the party to suffer an election loss so that a new leadership race can begin.
“Apparently Garth is busily deleting again.”
How sad John L that Garth boasts a great deal about having open dialogues but deletes opposing views on his websight.
Typical do as I say not as I do arrogance/ignorance.
“Anyone who honestly believes that the current US administration planned and executed the events of 911″
BYMORK07.27.086:53PM
I don’t think anyone suggests that “he planned” anything like that. However, I think the profusion of information that is coming even from prominent Republicans, suggests that Bush isn’t “in charge” of much.
Harry,
You asked,
“If a Carbon Tax is intended to motivate cutting back on GHG emissions, why bother compromising that objective with an income tax credit? Isn’t that self-defeating?”
People will use or treat the tax cuts and credits as extra income. They will then presumebly make choices based on variable presented to them. For example, Jack will opt to car pool with coworkers, Greg and Jane so as to save money. Since one or more cars are taken off the road, GHG gases are then reduced. However, while people are working out how they will change their living patterns, since a complete change of lifestyle may not be possible in such a short period of time, the tax cuts and credits will provide a cushion offsetting the higher costs of carbon based energy sources that we consume on a daily basis, that will be targeted by the carbon tax or green shift.
Companies will jump on the opportunity to profit from changes in the behaviour of people.
Evidence that high prices encourages people and business to change their behaviour is reaffirmed. One example close to most of us is, high oil prices. People are already driving less because of the high cost of gasoline, and car companies are fast forwarding their plans toward creating battery powered cars, and battery recharging stations. GM recently announced its plans to work with Canadian and American Utility companies to create a industry standard for car voltage. What’s more, today, more people ride the bus, carpool, take the subway or even walk to work if it isn’t to far.
There is no need to tax gasoline at the pump, because it is already having the desired effect on the economy. And, it is reasonable to assume that oil prices will continue to increase on their own without added taxes. Again the desired effect is being achieved as a result and people will continue to consume less gasoline.
GHG gases will be decreased on an individual level, by the personal choices of people, not the imposed sanctions of government.
Ed Stelmach said “the hardest thing to do is to encourage people to change their behaviours”
It is the behaviours of people which cause carbon to be put into the atmosphere.
The guiding principle surrounding the green shift is, “changing patterns.” Unleashing the power of the market system.
Daryn
The reason I will be there is curiousty only. He will not be able to fool me though in typical Liberal vision they will promise anything to get into power and once in power they keep on promising and promosing and…etc
